Hello everybody! I’m new to growing and I’m using a mix of Happy Frog and ocean forest from Fox farm. I’m wondering if I should go with light dose or medium dose of Grow Dots. If anybody has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it.

Welcome to the community! I’ve not used grow dots but from what I’ve read it’s a one time application from start to finish of the grow.
Grow Dots Classic Formula
Perfect for Indoor and Auto-Flowers
One Application
Feeds 4-6 Weeks of Veg, then 8-10 Weeks of Bloom
Welcome! There may not be a lot of GrowDot users on here since it is US based, but there are definitely a lot of friendly, helpful people that grow. The company doesn’t ship much to the US yet, but there are some international forums that have a lot of users/journals with it, fwiw. Would love to see you post your journal here.
I talked to a friend who owns a hydroponic store and he has used them before and he said they are perfect for autos. He had great success with grow dots
Check out @graysin did one or two comparison grows with grow dots
@Twelve1 i think uses grow dots quite a bit, I used on 1 grow and had to supplement in mid flower but other than that it was good. I think I used the medium rate dose.
@WhatsupDoc thanks for the info. I really appreciate that piece of advice.
Thanks buddy I know this much, they have on the back 3 different strength’s light, medium and heavy. I think it has something to do with how well your soil is amended as to which dose to use.
Hi, I’ve used Grow Dots for several autos, I really like the GD. Sorry for my late reply, I just saw this. I’ve never used Fox Farms soils, only Roots Organics Original that is moderately amended, and so I’ve found that the medium rate works best for that soil I use.
I’ve tried the heavy rate on two plants and the few med/heavy rate on several plants, and many of those plants showed some degree of nitrogen toxicity (some very dark green, clawing-down leaves), though all of the plants turned out fine.
I’ll guess that the Happy Frog would be fine with the medium rate, though the Ocean Forest might be better with the light rate.
From my experience and others, it seems that erring towards a lighter dose of Grow Dots is better, unless you’re aware of a strain that is a heavy feeder.
Bro thank you so much! The best advice yet. What type of soil did you use? I’m using regular feminized seeds this time not auto flower seeds. Thanks again the info!
I’m using grow dots this time around as well. First time using them so I don’t have any real input to give you yet.
I went with Roots Organics soil and a medium rate just like @Twelve1 suggested.
Im growing a couple autos as of right now. I’m interested in seeing how yours turn out.
Yep, I use their Original.
Not sure if you’re aware of another Grow Dot’s newer product that is Extended Veg, if you might like that for your fem seeds:

I just started my grow a week or two ago. Before I went to pick up my soil I came on here and searched that question and found a thread you suggested organic roots and medium rate for the grow dots. The guy at the grow shop said it was a good choice as well so I went with it. Otherwise I’ve only grown with fox farms happy frog and trio.
You ever use the AC Infinity self watering bases by chance?
Cool, and happy growing!
No, I haven’t used any self-watering bases. Have you/are you going to use any?
No I haven’t, but I’ve often wondered. I think the people at build a soil on you tube gives a review on them. I apologize for responding sooner. I’m really new to growing in soil.
So far, week or so in and the grow with the dots is going good. Just filled the ACI bases this morning. I’ll keep you updated on how they turn out.
How are your ACI pots working out for you?
I’m loving them so far. Not a lot to go off of yet, but the plants seem to be enjoying the bases for sure.
I’ll tag you in my journal so you can watch the progress if you’d like.
