Hello, everyone, I’ve not been on here for a while. I bought GDP on recommendations here. I had bad luck with my 4 seedlings, 3 of them died. It was the seedling starting soil that I used. the seedling just fell over and died. The one that was still standing but getting ready to fall over and die, I immediately transferred to a solo cup with Fox Farm soil and it perked right up and is now a beautiful plant.
My question is this; has anyone used Grow Dots or Recharge for their plants? I replanted the plant in a medium planter and when it got bigger, I replanted it into a 7 gallon felt container with Fox Farm soil. I didn’t give it any nutrients and it was doing great. Then I learned about Grow Dots, so I purchased them and the Recharge and put the recommended amount in the plant and watered it with distilled water with recharge in it. I’m getting ready to put the plant into flowering light stage as it has started making pistils. Has anyone had luck with the Grow dots and REcharge?
Lots of info around here on grow dots and maybe a couple growers still using them ![]()

Hi, I’ve been using grow dots and recharge (with Roots Organics Original soil) for a while (about three years) and they work well for me.
I only grow autoflowers.
It’s best recommended to mix grow dots into the grow medium before growing the plants, or when they are still very young and thus at transplant time.
Top-dressing with grow dots is also fine, according to the Real Growers folks.
I don’t transplant, I sow seeds into their permanent home.
Depending on which Fox Farm soil you use, like Ocean Forest, it “might” be a bit too hot having a full amount of grow dots in soil like that.
However, on the Real Growers website, they have a grow dots calculator that asks about how much already-amended grow medium is used, so that calculator is a good guide for how much grow dots to use.
Thanks Twelve1, that was helpful. I have the plant in Ocean Forest. I sprinkled it on top, as this plant was already pretty good size and getting ready to go into flowering. I will check out Real Growers and see what it says. I used a little less than what was called for, as like you said, Ocean Forest already has nutrients in it. Like I said, I have used no nutrients up till this time.
You’re welcome.
Sounds good.
Is it an auto or photo?
I’ve never top-dressed the grow dots, though the good thing is if the plant looks like it might have too many nutes (grow dots), then some of them can easily be removed, it seems.
It’s photo. It’s been a few days since I put them on it. the directions said to sprinkle them on top, so that’s what I did. So far, the plant looks great and is showing no signs of nutrient burn, so I’m hoping it will be ok.
My understanding is that photos aren’t as nute sensitive as autos; plus if need be, you can later remove some grow dots if you see signs of nute burn.
Should be fine, and easy to correct later, if need be.

Feel free to post pics here, and/or make a Topic that documents your plants’ grow journey.
I’d like to see how they do, and a journal can provide documentation and help for others to learn by.
And recharge works with all nutrient systems. It doesnt add NPK but it does increase nutrient uptake of the plant which could lead to burning if the soil is to hot.
I used it with foxfarm ocean forest on 10 seedlings this year with no issues
I personally use Recharge mixed with my nutrients line. Few growers used grow dots. They build their soil with growdots and than transplant. When it 1st came out @Graysin did a journal using it and grew some monsters
This is probably a stupid question as I’m new here, except for a few years ago when I first got on here and haven’t been on since, until now. I wasn’t on much. How do you do a journal?
Thank you, I will check it out.
Your seedlings falling over and dying sounds like it could be “damp off” . Common on seedlings where the soil is too wet, and/or not enough air circulation. Just a thought to consider.
Hi
, not a stupid question at all, and it looks like you received assistance on that.
No, they weren’t overwatered. I use a sprayer very lightly on my seedlings. I’m sure it was the seedling soil that I bought. It was very loose and couldn’t even pack. I’ve never had a problem with seedlings before, until I used this stuff, and I always water them sith a sprayer. Overwatering could certainly cause this.
