Intake air and keeping light out

How do you all set your tents up to draw fresh air in, and still hot let any light in during lights off?

I dont worry much about it, blue led’s from humidifers and some on circ fans, my grow tents in the basement with lower sleeves open on bottom of tent, but its dark down there most of the time unless I leave/or forget to shut off room light Off they are in and it does happen, no issue and I grow Photos.

duct

extension or build a box (periscope).

I use a 6" fan (hyper fan) attached to black vinyl coated duct work to draw intake air in at the front bottom left of the tent. I exhaust air out using the same equipment but from the back upper right. My tents (ac infinity) have double cinch sleeves that allow me to create a light proof seal around the ducting.

I don’t want any light (that isn’t green) in my tents at night.

I have never had a issue leaving the flaps open during flowering. I have 3 tents same room. My thought is when they are outside they have moon light and other light pollution.

Exactly, in a tent no worries :+1:

So I’ve heard, but I got in mine during the day, and had my wife zip me in. It was pretty damn light. I think it’d be ok at night, but if you’re running 12/12, you’re going to catch some daytime.

Wife walks into kitchen and hears Peter Griffin type giggling from the grow tent

Lol

Use spare ducting for a lower intake port. 2 90° bends in said should get rid of any light leaks. The exhaust fan will keep the air exchanged.

I’ve never had a problem and leave all three vents open. I dont think it enough to matter.

At first i went to crazy lengths  covered my tents in black out curtains and all

Here we are several years later and kinda know half of what im doing now :upside_down_face:

But my bottom flaps are wide open on all my tents veg and flower and it’s never been a problem.

I open them and turn the light on if I need to do something and dont think twice about it.
Don’t do it every day but sometimes tjey need attention and we work and lights out is the only time we have so :man_shrugging:

You can see mine don’t seem to mind at all

My big flower tent 4x6

My 3x3 flower tent

My fans are even faceing straight up, just laying in the vent holes up top. The light can even go straight diwn the fan and we spend time in both rooms fully light daily.

I totally agree. When the plant is use to 40.00 dli, and a light of .5 is leaking the plant is not going to think to sun is up.

Use a piece of round flex Put a couple snake bends in it. Pull the pucker string up nice and tight. Never had a problem.

I guess we all do what works for us…i encourage experiementation.

That said, stress during flower can and will cause herms…this isn’t bro science this is proven fact. Happy to have anyone challenge me on this one…it’ll be your loss in the long run.

Light stress has certainly caused herms for me and many others over the years. If you want to see a clear example of this check out “home grow tvs” episode where he grows runtztopia. He has a lighting issue and it triggers a hermie response in several of his plants.

If you are comfortable with the risk by all means do what you’re comfortable doing. It’s really not hard to eliminate the potential issue though, so why take the risk. You’re throwing hundred and thousands of dollars into gear, seeds, and electricity and you don’t want to take the extra time to eliminate a known stressor? I don’t get it…

I think this is the best option.

That’s going to be my plan.

I actually have a pass through hole on Opposite side of the tent also . With the exhaust fan running on medium , I have a good negative pressure inside tent. Pulling fresh air up through the tent and exhausting hot stale air out. Good luck :v:

I have never closed the airflow off in my tents. There is always some light on in the bedroom or hallway, and or another tent with grow lights on. Maybe the plants are just use to it and still associate as night. I don’t know but here is pics of photo week 4 of light switch.

Correct, all good practices:
Exhaust from top.
Intake from bottom.
Negative inside tent.
One tent “air” exchange per minute.
and attached math compensation.
