Has anyone tried this? I have couple ounces of trim from my first harvest. Any pointers welcome.

@blackthumbbetty is the gal you need.

Here is some of her research

Absolutely!

Works very well.

I do a 20 min oven decarb, then use the instant pot to cook for 30 mins, which makes about a 50 minute decarb

If I’m being lazy, I don’t oven decarb, but cook the stuff for 60 minutes, stopping the machine 2-3 times to stir the mixture.

Just got one from amazon and did our first batch.
Worked perfect…little to no smell.
Just made a batch of cookies with the oil abut 30 min ago.

Can you by any chance give me the exact methods? How much butter? Which setting? Water? Salted butter? Unsalted? Never done this before in my life lol

@Spiney_norman how were the cookies? Can I get that recipe? Lol

Here is a thread I made. Read it through, as the method evolved a bit. I use ghee (clarified butter) or refined coconut oil, myself.

Sorry to keep asking dumb questions. Do I lay the jars down? I dont think that they would fit standing up.

No question is dumb.

Use pint jars. They need to be standing up, as if you’re canning. Check out the pics I posted on that thread. :grinning:

Just substitute the butter oil extract in any cookie recipe.
We just use sams club boxed mix. 1 egg and 1/2 cup cannabutter.
This batch I used coconut oil that had an 1/16 oz weed.
We had decarbed 1/8th in 1 cup of coconut oil.
Wife is only starting to use medicinally so starting light. But it is helping already.

I make mine SIGNIFICANTLY stronger, say an ounce in ½ cup of oil.

Im sure we will get to that point.
But she has never had cannabis before in any form. I did not want her to over do it the first time she even tried it. It helps her sleep tho in low doses so before long I will double the strength and she can eat a few less cookies. Considering the drugs shes taking im hoping this will replace a few.

I absolutely understand. I was just stating that my recipe is a very strong recipe.

Excellent! Try adding a tsp or tbsp to your coffee/tea/hot cocoa.

That’s just oil, right? No water? You strained the plant matter from it? What method did you follow? How much weed to oil?

Inquiring minds want to know! :grinning:

@blackthumbbetty

One ounce of trim to 1lb of salted butter.

Decarbed in instant pot for 40 min natural release for 10 min.

Cooked in instant pot for 30 min. Natural release 10 min

Strained plant matter through cheesecloth.

One oz of trim? Just one oz of trim to a pound of butter? One oz of trim equals maybe a ¼oz of buds, potency-wise. That means the potency of that lb of budder is probably only 2000mg of THC or so, total, rough estimate. If you have an extreeeeeeemely low tolerance, you should be very happy. However, I suspect you’re going to need to ingest a lot of budder to properly dose yourself.

Why are you differentiating between decarbing and cooking? What made you label them as 2 separate things? Did you use different settings?

I used butter once but did not like the final product. Ghee would have been better.
The small amount of moisture that butter naturally has separates and settles to the bottom. The salt seems to all go there too. It tastes awful. I can see it on the bottom of your jar.
Ghee is butter that has been clarified so no water remains.
I prefer coconut oil. Mostly because I dont have to deal with any water in the product.

That’s actually the milk solids separating out. I suggested to them to use clarified butter or coconut oil.
