In-line Fan Question

I currently have my in-line fan setup to pull new air inside the tent and through a carbon filter. The tent is currently 80° and I feel this may be too hot. Should I flip the fan around and blow the air out of the tent through the filter?

Yes you want to try get hot air out you can open flap it will put air in by pulling out hot air

@Veva If you’re just putting the filter from one end of the fan to the other, then I don’t think it’s going to change how much air it moves, I believe the restrictions will be pretty similar.

80 isn’t that bad really.

Check your tent walls, are they sucking in when the door is closed and fan is on? If so, you just need more vents opened to let more air into the tent. Is your ducting as straight as possible without any unnecessary bends? Bends will restrict airflow quite a bit too. Be aware of where your thermostat sensor is at. If the light is shining directly on it, it could be reading hotter than actual air temps. These are more like suggestions than solutions, just some stuff to try.

No, the tent walls expand, like when you blow air into a balloon.

I would change it (if I understand you correctly)

I would have fan exhaust hot air out top of tent while passively drawing cool air in from bottom of tent.
I personally have filter in tent at beginning of line, i.e. filter>fan>hose>outside of tent)

An oscillating fan in tent to further circulate air is very much recommended as well

Hope this helps you with your problem

Edit… you have positive pressure in the tent.(blowing out walls like a balloon)
You want negative pressure (sucking walls in SLIGHTLY, not crazy)
My set up diagram will achieve this

Ah, well you don’t want that, especially if you’ll need to contain and filter odors. The filter and fan should be sucking air from the tent and blowing it out. Most people hang the filter and fan from the ceiling bars of the tent and run a short ducting hose out one of the big holes near the top. Then you open the flaps at the bottom to let fresh air in. @Vevo

Exhausting air out is always more effective than blowing air in. You want to create a slight negative pressure in whatever you’re Exhausting (tent or room for example).

I use one 6" inline fan to suck air out and i use one 6" inline fan to suck air in (sucks through a HEPA filter). I use “hyper fan” fans. If you are using passive venting you’ll want your passive intake to be about double the size of your exhaust.

Like in all the brochures
Your setup might not allow the exact configuration, but the airflow should work like the picture.
I think it’s clear we all agree :joy:

:joy: thanks everyone, I had it setup in the reverse order. I’ll fix it today!

Let us know if this helps your temp issue. I think it will help immensely

I would have the fan exhausting the air out the top hole. It will suck in fresh air if you have the flaps open.
You can pull or push air through the filter so it can be in the tent or outside of it. If you push air throught the filter remember to take off the dust cover so air flow is not restricted.

@4204life quick question. I am pretty new to growing. I have my inline fan mounted on outside of my tent pulling air out the top and through the charcoal filter. Are you saying it will work better if i take the sleeve off the filter?

Picture for reference

Depends what side of the fan the filter is on. If air goes through the fan 1st then you are pushing it through the filter. Then cover should be off. If air is being pulled through the filter 1st then through the fan you are good.
Does that make sense?

My filter is inside my tent. Hose is going from the filter to outside my tent to the fan. Fan is just blowing air into the open laundry room. Filter does a good job with the smell

@Allingamer You’d want to take the cloth pre-filter off in your picture. Some recommend placing it inside the charcoal filter. It’s purpose is to filter out particles before the charcoal.
If you have no particle filter before your fan, be sure to clean the fan blades once in a while.

Yes, no filter in this case

Looks like you are pushing the air through the filter. I would remove the dust cover. Cover is designed to keep particles out of the filter when air is pulled. You are pushing it through so cover could be restricting air flow some.

Tesy that makes sense. I currently am having air from tent pulled out through ducting then fan then filter. So i will be taking cover off. Thanks for the info.

The cover wont make a difference on the smell. Just to keep particles out.
Right on growmie!
