Ilgm grandaddy purple autoflower

Is it to early to start using silica and calmag? Are they ready for jacks 321 yet ? I think they are 3 or 4 weeks old can anyone tell ?

When you begin feeding depends on what soil you are using. What soil are you using? Feeding should be calibrated by monitoring and managing runoff PPM. Begin feeding when runoff PPM reaches < 1,000.

I wouldn’t start silica too early. Silica strengthens plant structure and can make training difficult due to the stiffness of the plants. I usually start silica beginning at the flowering stage.

I learned the hard way. I started after the stretch

Dead on right there! I just made that mistake.

Wrapped with teflon tape, rolled nice and folded it over, next day it was standing up. Reached over with one finger and moved it down about an inch… Snap! Hang’n by the teflon tape.

Quit the silica and all the new growth is a lot more flexible.

I’ve broken/split plenty of nodes overusing silica. It’s effective and fast. You’ll notice stiffness increase within a few days of applying silica.

Silica is really important during flowering. Trichomes are predominantly made of silica.

Thanks for the tip! I just now am seeing a bunch of popcorn size buds, I just super cropped two of the lemon haze today and probably have a couple more to do. As soon as I do those I should probably start back.

I’ve been pumping the light to’m pretty hard but they’re pack in so tight they’re stretching anyway.

Really appreciate it. Lucky only goes so far. :joy: :four_leaf_clover:  :joy:

Thanks for the tip, I’ve been fighting this since I started silica and just never put 2 and 2 together.

@MidwestGuy which silica do you use, how much, and how often?

I wouldn’t give silica until you’re 3/4 happy with lst shaping. They will stiffen on you. I like armor si just be sure to ph back down your water as it does raise it. I start lst early, 2 weeks in then silica around day 30.

Currently armor si and ive used it during veg stages every feed and watering, every 3 or 4 days during veg and every other day during flower but no more during veg

wow I only give it 2x in veg! never heard about giving it so often

I’ll have to look into that, geez maybe ive been really over doing it thanks

I would have sworn my feed chart had it on there but not so. When do you add it those couple of times?

Well I start lst early as mentioned at about 2 weeks so by 30 days they are mostly shaped how I want them so I give them a medium dose at 30 days and then again at 37 if not in flower already. The one at 30 days makes all the difference though. You can see some examples of mine in a recent post called gorilla purple.

Im glad i didnt start with the silica on these gdp autos (first and last auto run) would have had troubles training thanks again

I also add cannazym each water and feed any thoughts on that?

No experience with that at all. I use a mix of buffered coco, worm castings, perlite and rice hulls with grow dots. We add recharge, silica, some cal mag and some kelp me kelp you if they ask for it.

Also, don’t want to hijack the op’s thread but here is a photo at 30 days when they first got silica. As you can see she was mostly shaped and just needed to grow a little more and then go upwards.

My next grow I’ll be back to photoperiod and trying out the autopot system i bought, i believe I’ll order a bottle of the kelp product.
