Welcome fellow Marylander, I’m in Mont Co. Welcome to the forum .
You did it, got your thread going, everyone here to help. Pics are always good.
In beginning put outside for a few hours a day if temps are good and they will get use to the suns intense light as well as other environmental conditions.
I have not got light burn from having outdoors though, heat is a different matter, where you live you might have the opposite problem being too cold, I dont know your climate though.
Did you harden them off with a couple hours sunlight for a couple days, then increase time in sun a bit each day?
Also maybe the first outings keep the out of direct sunlight, under a shading of some sort..
@Newgrowersteve welcome to the family you have to slowly introduce them to the outdoors as other grower’s saying harden them to outside my friend happy growing
Im currently in the process of hardening off 3 plants for (my first) outdoor grow. Today should be their last day hardening off.
The first 2 days they never saw ANY direct sunlight. i kept them in the shade for just a couple hours, monitoring for signs of stress.
On day 3 they got direct sunlight for about 3 hours. Day 4 same spot, same direct sunlight for about 5 hours. Days 5 and 6, same spot, same light - 7 hours.
We’re going into day 8 and they’re outside all day in direct sunlight from morning until sunset.
Its a matter of slowly introducing them to direct sunlight, increasing the hours day by day.
You need to constantly monitor for signs of stress. If they seem grumpy simply put them back in your shaded spot for a few hours and water them if necessary, if that doesnt cheer them up then bring them back inside for the day.
I hope this is somewhat helpful for you.
Well said @Zampano that should help new grower’s out my friend happy growing
And you can take that to the bank growmies.
Well said.
Sorry i couldnt reply it was my first day yesterday, and they said i replied to many times, first thank for all the help everyone and im starting them inside paper towel or cup of water ive done both putting them directly into 3 gallon grow bags with fox farm soil and out into the sun during the day im in Maryland so its been 50 to 70ish during the day here

I live in the Deep South, zone 8a and the temps are already climbing into the 80s, that gives you an idea of the sort of sunshine and heat my ladies are seeing.
Slow and steady wins the race. You got this.
My plants getting there first outdoor experience today since temps will be in 70s. I wont put outdoors 24/7 until I am getting consistant daytime temps in 70s and nightime in 50s
The above pic are 2 autos, you will see the stunted growth compared to the photos in nxt pic. Final pic are marigolds for companion plants to try and keep pests away especially aphids
