I Grew Loose Buds, Info Please

I have harvested and cured my first grow. ILGM seed that did great! GDP Indica.
My buds are open and airy compared to the dispensary weed I got.
Their’s is one inch and packed and compressed. Mine are 2 inches and loose and fluffy. (Smokes great though)
Was this a light issue? Did the colas stretch due to close and powerful light.
2.3x2.3 tent with a 150 watt light.

What was your ppfd average across your tent?

@Me75 can you post any pics of the bud? could be picked too soon could need nutes could be several things but with minimal info who knows. Sounds like it needed more light not less

If the bud were airy, it was a light or temp or both issue. My first grows we’re with inferior lights and I had airy buds. I screwed up a couple of times in the last few years with high temps and had airy buds. I think I have those issues under control now @Me75

Good lights and environment make a huge difference…I found it out the hard (and expensive) way.

I went back and read some of your older posts.
You mentioned this was a Granddaddy Purple Autoflower.
Autoflowers are prone to be less dense than photo periods.
Some autos will produce dense buds with good lighting and feeding, but by and large most seem to produce somewhat airy buds. You probably did nothing wrong.
Once I switched to photoperiod plants my harvest weight went way up and the buds are now generally dense and heavy.

Thanks for replying!
The one on the left is the tight bud and the right one is mine.
I followed the info on using a light. It changed heights and power all grow long.
Temps might be the problem. The plant is grown in the southern U.S. and I saw 80+ for the last month or so. But I remember the colas being tall and spaced out thru most of the grow.
MarsHydro set up with the 150 watt light.
Close to the end of the grow, I had the light at 14 inches and 75% power. I probably had it there for 3 weeks.

Nice job.
I still says its just genetics. Autoflowers just grow that way.
Funny because they look great at the chop but then once dry they seem to loosen up.
But if it smokes good then who cares.

This is an Blueberry CBD auto I just harvested and it doesn’t have dense buds.

This is a Herijuana photo that’s got a couple of weeks…the buds are dense.
Both grown under the same lights @Me75

This is an issue I’ve wondered about. Seems to me the first thing a person does with a “ rock hard bud” is to break it up to make it airy before using it???

I would say your issue lies with the Mars light I have one also… But I also have a Samsung qb with dimmer this is my current result

I’ve found that growing tight buds requires everything to be dialed in tight (lighting, pH, PPM,…) throughout the flowering stage. I run my lights so I get ~1,000 PPFD on the canopy throughout flowering. I get tight buds that way. I do get some foxtailing doing that, but I just cut them off at the harvest.

Yep. I keep a 1/2-pint Ball jar full of weed I’ve sent through a grinder.

i have 3 auto flowers that wont bloom they are 9 weeks old now they seem to be dropping lower leaves is this signs of end of life? also didn’t know that autos can grow 7 feet is this normal?

Welcome @glennpalumno is there any way to send a pic for us to evaluate from happy growing :v:

Welcome to the forum.

We’ve seen autos take up to 12 weeks to flower, though most will flower between 4 and 7 weeks. Longer is not all that uncommon.

It’s normal for cannabis to shed the lower leaves as she matures. Nothing to be worried about.

You got a good one. That’s a giant auto.

@MidwestGuy have a question for ya I’m growing jack herer autoflower ilgm would you no if it’s supposed to be a fruity smell I’ve only grew it once and it didn’t turn out the greatest

Jack Herer primary terpines are terpinoline, carophyllene, linalool, and pinene. It should smell of flowers, herbs, earthy pepper, and pine. The fruity smell probably comes from myrcene, which is in Jack Herer in small quantities.

I can smell a little pine and earthish but it mostly fruity smell @MidwestGuy thank you for the info

How many hours are you running? I’m using DLI for my autos and running 20hrs the most ppfd I can get is 550osh before the DLI goes way above where it should be.

I just pour on the light and don’t worry about DLI. If PPFD is good, then DLI will take care of itself. I run 18/6 in veg and 12/12 in flower.
