Are Autoflowers more likely to have airy lighter buds? 2nd time with them and results are airy buds again. Just harvested 4 days ago
Hi and welcome. Some pics if you got em. Fill this out and it will really help figure out whats going on.
Particularly interested in the amount of light.
Welcome to the community , from my experience I have noticed that some autos will take as long to finish as a photo Plant . Also overall will not produce the yield a photo plant will. There is a lot of factors that play into results. lighting , experience an grow
Space. Happy growing !
My auto was airy but it was a lighting issue and moisture issue for me.
Airy buds is usually down to lack of light. What light are you using?
Thanks for the responses. Since legal here it’s my 2nd attempt. Both auto flower. 1st time with donated equipment it didn’t turn out well. (Airy buds and always smell/taste like hay). I tried again with a little upgrade. Perhaps not enough. I don’t want these nuggets to turn out bad. I appreciate the feedback.
*Indoor 4’x2’ spider farmer tent.
*3 plants ILGM Wedding Cake auto
- tap water
- potting soil
- ILGM Nutrients used as recommended
- LED Spider Farmer SF1,000 and a supplemental led growlight.
- 4” spider farmer ventilation
- temperature avg. 68 degree. 63% humidity.
Spider farmer sf 1,000. Never really did much indoor before and on a budget. I am learning a lot about indoor growing. Trying to learn more. Fix my mistakes.
See below. Thanks
It is your lighting.
Thanks for the feedback.
Like always, If I want better results I have to invest in better equipment.
Yes my first auto sour diesel in the closet was small and airy buds but I still got 5 ounces out of it.
My 2nd auto was an Afghan auto in my tent and the buds were much better by being small but a bit denser and got 5 ounce off it.
My 3rd grow in my tent is another sour diesel auto and the buds are small but the dense’s buds yet. Net weight is still to be determined
And I agree it’s the size of my tent and light but I’m ok with that
There is nothing wrong with the SF1000. Its a great light, but if you want big dense buds you need 2x SF1000 per plant.
Here is my last grow under 2x SF1000s
They are on sale right now also.
So, you can pick up another SF1000 for under 100
You need at least 320 watts for full coverage in that tent, or 200 watts per plant. Good rule is 40 watts per square foot.
Thanks for the advice. I wish I would have joined this community sooner. It’s been trial & error and lessons learned. Been frustrating but educational.
I just harvested 2nd round and in dry & cure now. Being more aware of humidity, temperature and air circulation.
My last harvest went from sweet smelling, sugar coated bud to smelling/tasting like hay! Beautiful plants and turned to very pretty, but garbage flower.
Hay smell is fairly common while drying, its chlorophyll gassing off, it should go away during curing.
Such is the journey we travel.
Good that you can do better.
Lights make the grow when all else id good.
Watch the movie “Saving Grace”
They have lights, for growing (visible from the space station).
Distance above, leaf temp, and DLI all influence bud growth.
Good growing to you.
Each equipment purchased will require another piece of hardware, to “dial-it-in” . Joy, go for it!
Drying too quick/hot usually the cause for this. As for airy buds thats usually lighting or genetics. The buds on them plants there dont look like they should be airy at all. Aslong as the dry and cure is cool and slow you should be good. If light isnt strong enough yiu yry lowering it a little closer to the canopy in future when in flower but not too close.
