I don't think Al Gore has any friends. Autoflower grow, start to finish

Looking good Cap! Now some more questions. What size pots? I use 5 gal. cloth, was going to go with 4 this time in a 4x5 room. Should have plenty of room if you’re running 8. The myzos; do you sprinkle all around the hole or just the couple spots? The soil in the pots, is it thoroughly soaked also? Thanks

Normally I use 5 gal fabric pots for my autos in soil, and 7 gal when I grow in coco, but this time I actually have both. I thought I had more 5 gal than I did, so I had to use a few 7’s.
The grey ones are 7 gal, and the black ones are 5 gal. It’s tough to see in the pics, but the 5 gal pots are on lifts to keep the heights even with the taller 7’s.

So I’m only going to be keeping 4 of these plants in the grow space you see in the pic. I raise all of them in the 4x6 closet, and keep my tents shut down to save electricity. Once they grow to the point where they’re ready to start touching each other, I’ll fire up one of the tents and move 2 of them out of the closet. Then a week or two later, I fire up the other tent and move 2 more. So eventually I’ll end up with 4 left in the 4 x 6 closet, 2 in the 2 1/2 x 5 tent, and 2 in the 2 x 4 tent.

I use a good amount of Azos or Mykos, and thoroughly sprinkle it in and around the transplant hole.

I’m a firm believer in thoroughly saturating the soil. For transplanting, I use half of the amount of water/feeding solution before I put the plant in the new soil, and then the other half after the plant goes in. This way the soil in the pot is already wet, and I can remove the solo cup that was the mold for the hole without the soil collapsing. Also, the soil being wet helps the Mykos or Azos stick to sides of the hole.

@Cap_Ron , Are they still too young to worry about runoff?

Not at all, actually I watered them to runoff when they were still in solo cups, and then I got runoff out of the fabric pots after the transplant. I’m not a subscriber to the theory that seedlings need very little water.

Hell of an auto tutorial @Cap_Ron ! Very interesting and detailed info. I see no unrest in the forest…:sunglasses:

Oh yes following no doubt. And a lifelong Rush fan.

I haven’t seen @CygnusX1 or @Gmb2112 around for a little while, but I’m sure they’d enjoy this little gathering of Rush fans!

I guess with the aroma that flooded the arenas for every Rush show I was ever at, it shouldn’t be surprising that there are lot’s of us here in the forum, lol.

Unfortunately they weren’t ready for a feeding last night. If they were close, I would have gone ahead with it because I’d always rather err on the side of over watering rather than under, but they weren’t close enough, not even for me. They will be ready tonight though.
It appears like the Roots Organics Original soil has a little bit stronger charge than the Mother Earth Coco Peat I normally use. I noticed very slight yellow edges on a couple of these girls leaves, but not to a point that worries me.
They should hit a nice growth spurt after tonight’s feeding. Usually the first 2 weeks are the slowest point of an autos life. From here on, things go quickly!

Thank you @Lostgirl. I’m looking forward to training them next week. If they continue to do well I’m thinking that I’ll top all of them this run.

I think I’ve tested these girls (Autoflowers) to their limits of what they can handle and what they can’t. I believe there’s absolutely no problem in transplanting as long as you do the procedure correctly and that goes for topping and super cropping as well. However, my question to you is do you see a significant difference in yield on cropping or not cropping the Autoflower? I meant “Topping not cropping”

Yes, there’s a decent difference, at least with a strong auto that will have no problem recovering from the topping.
You lose the main cola, but all the ones around it get bigger as a result. Usually I would top a few, supercrop a few others, and leave the smaller or slower growers alone, but so far these girls are all looking like candidates for topping.

Everyone got a feeding tonight. The soil is less than a week old, so I’m not using any base nutrients yet, just some cal/mag (because I use RO water) and B-52, but I noticed some slight interveinal chlorosis on a few of them so I added Epsom Salt as well for a bit of a magnesium boost.

Looks like I got pretty lucky with genetics on this grow. These girls are going to be a pleasure to train. Almost no stubby growth shoots at all. By some standards they’d be ready for training right now, but I prefer doing it a bit later.

Your girls are really coming along nicely. Wish I could see when mine are headed towards trouble early, I don’t know it until the leafs are flashing yellow and red and they’re screaming “can you hear me now!” lol

Well @Cap_Ron . This is a great journal! I’m jumpin on this moving train. I’m goin to grow just autos but I’ll be growing outdoors. The size is good and the quantity is more than I need. It seems like Mephisto Genetics is top notch for autos. Thanks for taking the time and putting this together. :+1:

@Cap_Ron , if nothing else, it’s looks like you have a clean and well organized laboratory! The plants are looking great also!:joy:

Thank you all!

@WilIy, I had the same issues for a long time. The more often you take pics of the problem leaves and plants, the easier it is to look back at the progression of the issue and figure out what helped, what didn’t, and even what might have made it worse. Of course aside from the pics you also need to detail everything you did, so you can compare your notes and pictures.

@madhatter1, yeah Mephisto is definitely one of the best auto breeders out there. When it comes to bud quality, smell, taste, and strength they can’t be beat. On the other hand, when it comes to overall plant structure, and the thickness of stalks and stems, I think ILGM autos take the number one spot. Some of my Mephisto plants need to be staked up halfway through flower. Not complaining, the buds are so great it’s well worth the effort, but I almost never need to add support to ILGM autos. It’s not because the buds aren’t as big, it’s just that the branches are generally thicker and stronger than the average autos.

@Dennis62, glad you’re following along. A lot of what I learned over the years was right here in the forum. Journals are a great way to pick up different tips and tricks from growers around the world!

@Fishyswaw, it’s not always nearly this neat in my grow room. I just finished a thorough cleaning, especially on the set of shelves I consider to be the nerve center of the entire operation, lol.
