Goal for The Grow

My last Hyperion F1 looked beautiful, but she was hit with a BAD cold burst here in Colorado mid-grow. I think it stunted her quite a but, but I also only used a 1-gallon pot. Her yield was less that ½ oz, but the flower is fruity and delicious. I also pulled back on nutrients more than I think I should have.

On this grow, I am going to let her develop through week 2 or 3 with little to no nutrient support. Once she is established, I am going to start with ⅛ recommended dosages of Ventana Plant Science as will supplement with Stash Blend. I am going to keep the levels very low to start and will gradually progress while watching closely for over-fertilization.

Watering

I am going to be a bit more focused on watering. I started by moistening my planting area with around 500 ml distilled water and I let that dry out in the tent a bit. I will start with 100-200 ml for the first few waters and will progress to 500 ml by week 2. From there, I will follow a pretty standard progression, adding 250 ml each week as needed until she hits her stride and I can start watering 2 liters during flowering. I am going to read the plant and avoid over-watering by pushing for extra time in-between waters.

Medium

For my medium, I am upping her to a 5-gallon AC Infinity cloth pot. I mixed 3 gallons of Happy Frog with 1 gallon of Perlite. Additionally, I put 1.5 gallons of hydroton and perlite in the base for drainage. Additionally, I added 6 tablespoons of Mykos for extra mycorrhizal in my soil. I REALLY want to massive root structure with this one.

I dug a bit of a hole where I plan to put the germinated seed and added some COM Seed Starter blend.

Germination and Planting

I soaked her in a glass of water for around 18 hours and then moved her to a wet paper towel to start germination. After around 36 hours, the taproot showed some great development, but was not straight. It was definitely curved around, so I let it grow a bit more to see if the root would straighten out a bit for proper planting

After 72 hours, she was ready to go! Small hole is dug, and into the tent she goes! I will keep a humidity dome (cut water bottle) over her until she sheds her seed casing!

Hopefully this one goes well! I have seen some large yields come from Hyperion F1. Let’s hope for the best!

Sounds like a well thought out plan. I’ll follow to see how she grows. I buy most of my seeds from RQS. They have nice prices and never had a dud from them. I just harvested a Orion F1 and it was super. Best of luck on this grow. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :love_you_gesture:

Uhg, she died!

After around 24 hours in soil, I was curious as to why there was no movement at all at the plant site. I did a quick investigation and the taproot shriveled up and was brown and dry when I extracted. I am really not sure what happened. Maybe my substrate was too dry?

I’ll have to shake it off and try again!

The good news is that I planted a Sherbet Queen auto along with the Hyperion in the same exact medium conception, so this journal will hopefully become Sherbet Queen! haha

I’ve seen some movement from her, hopefully she pops today.

Any ideas what could have happened with Hyperion, growers?

I also got some new seeds coming from Fastbuds, so I’ll reuse the prepared 5-gallon and run a new journal!

Hard to say.. might have been to dry.. when i plant im a straight to dirt kinda guy so i dont do the germination steps.. and normally within 5 days i have a sprout

The only way I ever used was the paper towel method or straight into the soil. It’s always worked for me. And put the plastic dome over it. It’s pretty much foolproof.

Paper towel method has been my go-to as well. Crazy it didn’t work this time!

I’ll have to do some straight to soil for my next seeds. Let’s hope for success with Sherbet Queen!

@madhatter1 @Mmanson1981 What’s your watering look like for the first week or two?

I just water the seed in a bit at first, not a lot, just enough to keep the soil moist and cover it with the dome until it gets it first set of single leaves. Then I water a little further out from the seedling so the roots will spread out. Just use your better judgement as not to over water. Less is best at this stage but I’m sure I’m not telling you anything new.
That must of been just a dud that didn’t make it.

The one pic I see where the soil looks dry in the center where you put the seed and wet around it just might be the problem imo. If that’s the case It probably just didn’t get any water and that must of been the problem and caused it to dry up.

Yeah, I am thinking that is the case for sure. I did mix around 1 cup of water in that area the day before planting. But still, I have to think my caution for over-watering (based on some stunted seedlings I have in my previous run) got the best of me.

I added 10 ml of water to my Sherbet Queen today under and around the dome. I hope she sprouts tomorrow! If not, Fastbuds seeds here I come haha!

It’s funny how much a wrong result can affect your instincts… I’ve grown 20+ successful seeds this year with maybe 3 or 4 dying. It’s important to remember the successes!

Agreed, That’s probably the biggest mistake that we all make at one time or another by over or underwatering. You know the routine, you’ll be fine. If you ain’t makin mistakes you ain’t learning anything. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :+1:

So i put seed in dirt and give a shot glass.. then every day a shot

I also water close to where i put the seed and the seedling for the first 2 weeks

Sherbet Queen as popped! Soil around the plant is still moist pretty much right on the surface, slight dryness on top. I’ll let it go overnight and check tomorrow if it needs 30 to 40 ml water mixed with 1 ml/gallon Tribus.

I removed the humidity dome and moved her to my 2x4 tent, where I will grow a few different autos that will all be around the same stage of growth.

DLI is 14, Temp: 76-80 degrees Humidity: 65% 20/4 Light Cycle

She is looking strong on after 1 week in soil!

I didn’t water her for around 3 days and the soil felt very dry about an inch or so down, so I watered with 400 ml distilled water with 1 ml/gallon Tribus.

I am going to hold off on watering again for a minimum of 3 days to be sure she drys out before another dose, but as always, I will try to read the plant an avoid the over/underwatering pitfalls.

Great color and we are hopefully off to the races!
