New to hydroponics. I got a new all in one hydroponics thing for christmas and was using it to start my autoflower seeds in rock wool. I let this one grow in there and added air pump after it started taking off. I fear this thing may turn out to be too small later. Question is whats a good size pot without going overboard, for me to use instead of using this thing? I dont know how much bigger size pot i need for a single autoflower setup to replace this thing. 2gal? 3? Im growing autos. Hopefully im posting this in the right section??
That’s set up is best suited for cannabis sprouts, herbs or small house plants. You’ll need a set up capable of holding the roots suspended in the nutrient solution, looks like there’s a small light attached?? The plant will be ok for early veg but need a much stronger light to flower. You could possibly remove the light and use the center net cup. The plant looks nice and healthy Growmie, if your looking to move into soil or coco a 3 gallon fabric pot would be my recommendation
I got plants in pots, under a 200w maxsisun 700 led panel, so l got light covered.
I started my seedlings with that hydro box, then they went into happy frog. I just wanted to try letting that one grow, then thinking about creating one a little bigger. I see they do sell a kit to grow hydro (deep water culture) in a 5 gallon bucket. I have buckets and a pump. Im just wanting to know how big of a bucket do i really need to have for a single auto? Does it need to be a 5 gallon bucket or will say like a 3 gallon bucket be sufficient? I dont want to use 5 gallon bucket if s 3 gallon is sufficient.
The 5 gallon bucket will work perfectly for 1 plant
As will a 10 gallon. Question was does it need to be a 5 gallon? Or will a 3 gallon be sufficient? As i mentioned earlier, 5 gallon bucket is too big for the space i have. Im going to try with a 3 gallon and hope its enough. Thanks for the reply.
My 5 gallon bucket with 6 inch basket only uses a bit over 3.5 gallons, so I guess check basket depth on a 3 gallon. Just a guess/thought over here.
I’m going to say your method of try it and see is the correct way. I personally suspect it to be too small.
Might be better off trying to do a tote if you can find one that will fit?
Either way report back so we can see what happens! Good luck
I’m no help for hydro.
Welcome to the forum!
pic of my grow space.
@Blast so i made up a dwc bucket and transplanted to it. Shes growing fast but i read about problems later if the water level is too high. I started this in 1” rock wool cube. Water doesnt touch the rw cube but its slways wet. I read that can turn to a root rot. How far under the rw cube should my water level be?
I’ll answer as best that I can, I’m still on my first grow remember and I use only lava rocks so… Oh, I did find 3 gallon dwc kits. My take on the water level is this. If you are cloning a cutting water needs to be below the growing medium 1 to 2 inches. The bubbling water splashing will reach the bottom of the medium keeping it moist and promotes root growth. Now, If you have roots that can reach the water with the clones or transplant you do not need that air spacing if you have adequate aeration. Then U can keep water level at the bottom of the basket. Overfilling can cause medium to get wet and dry too much causing problems. With that being said I guess if you sit the rockwool on the bottom of the basket you would still need some space or it will stay wet. If you raised it up using balls or rocks then I guess it should be fine. I use hydroguard and have always had my air compressors on the highest setting. I hope this helps. I’m curious if you could just remove it from the rock wool if you are worried about it?
I think you will need a bigger hole. Unless you are gonna flip them real quick, that might get contricting
I wonderd if i could remove it as it seems to really not have a purpose. Also im new to this autoflower as well as the dwc so i have no idea how big the basket actually needs to be. I dont have any idea how thick the stalk will get. My basket is 1.25” ID. Ill look for something a little bigger for the next one. Ill let this one continue and see what it does and upgrade afterwards if needed.
Oh righto. Makes sense.
It wouldn’t matter even if he flipped them they’re autos they won’t flower until their ready! I have an auto in my tent with my photo I flipped about 9 days ago. My photo is showing signs of starting to flower. Yet my auto continues on like it’s vegging still! 0 signs of flowering l. Just showing sex
Sorry I missed that they were auto.
