Humidifier water?

Can I just use city tap water in my humidifier while drying or should I use something else?

City tap is fine

Tap water is a no-go in ultrasonic humidifiers. The humidifier will aerosolize the minerals in tap water and you’ll end up with a white dust all over the drying space.

Tap water is fine if you are using a wicking, evaporative type humidifier.

I use a wicking humidifer too, but have used a ultrasonic one and ended up with white dust everywhere.

We get some new growers asking if the white power is WPM. What type of humidifier and water they are using is always the first question I ask. We see it every couple of months, and especially in the winter months when folks are using humidifiers the most.

So if I have a humidifier that’s does the cool mist thing what would that be considered? I’m sorry im illiterate cuz I definitely thought a humidifier was a humidifier and yu use tap water to fill them lmao @MidwestGuy @ChittyChittyBangin

Cool mist humidifiers are ultrasonic.

so would u say the best water to use in a ultrasonic/ cool mist humidifier would be distilled or ro water due to having 0 minerals to aerosolize in the first place?

Correct

So is this only applicable during drying stage? Or do I have to use distilled or RO water threw out the whole grow? Cuz I definitely been using tap water

The stage is irrelevant.

If you are not getting mineral dust from using tap water then it would mean that the PPM of your tap is low and in that case tap water is fine. My tap water is bad, so I use RO water if using an ultrasonic humidifier.

Using tap isn’t going to hurt anything. It just leads to the mineral dust.

I just checked the ppm of my tap water I’ve had sitting for 48 hours and the reading is 371! I’m assuming that’s on the low side!

371 is in the mid range. Some people have ~120 and other have ~600. It just depends on how your municipality treats the water.

I thinking if you use RODI water you should be ok.

I’m actually going to use Distilled Water, that’s what I’ve been using on this grow, so I have plenty.
