Humidifier Recommendation

Came across a new issue last night. I noticed that my exhaust fan wasn’t moving much if any air. Digging around inside the grow tent I discovered that my carbon filter cover was completely clogged with a super fine white power. After a little bit of digging on the forums I discovered that an ultrasonic humidifier with our water was the cause. Removed the humidifier and got the filter cover washed so everything is back to flowing again. My plants are still in the seedling stage and i’ve managed to get the humidity pretty solid at 45% with a wet cloth by the intake. Do I need to find a better solution for the humidity level like a wet wicking humidifier instead of ultrasonic to keep the white dust down and my carbon filter from plugging. Recommendation? is 45% ok for growing plants?

45% would be fine for flower, ideally you’d want to get it higher for Veg. I had the same issue with the ultrasonic humidifiers. I now use a wicking style Whole House humidifier.

I use wicking humidifiers. Honeywell HCM-6009 and a HEV320.

Thank you. That’s kind of what I was thinking but before running out and spending more money on another humidifier I figured it was better to ask the professionals.

I was looking at the Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier w/Humidistat, HEV615.

You’ll want it ideally arouns 60 RH for seedlings. I have a small humidifier that runs all winter and i just refill it every morning. Its running about $60 on amazon

Thank you for the recommendation but that’s an ultrasonic and unless I put distilled water in it i’m going to get white dust that will clog my carbon filter again (must have super crappy water). I currently have the one listed below and it took just over two weeks to completely clog the carbon filter. Works amazing but that dust.

Ahh i see. I use RO water so ive never run into that issue. Have you looked into an RO filtration system? Super easy to install and can hook up below a sink with a y junction in the water pipes to the cold line or up top at the spout. Mine is ran from a y juction from the washer cold water. They run about $50-$60 and you wouldnt have to buy a new humidifier

I run a dehumidifier in my basement. I run a humidifier in my bedroom (this time of year). I was getting residue from the water, so I started capturing my dehumidifier water, and use it in my humidifier. No residue since. So yeah… If you have to use a humidifier, use distilled, RO, rain, or dehumidifier water in it and you’ll have no residue.

A cool mist humidifier will work… You must use RO water or Distilled water. Especially if you have a water softener… It will leave behind all minerals.
