How far away for light

I have a iPower 600 Watt HPS MH Digital Dimmable Grow Light System Kits Air Cooled Reflector Hood Set. How far above my plants should I be running this. Just putting seedlings into tent and firing it up. Also, I assume run it dimmed a bit for a couple of days? Thanks everyone new to this.

Use the MH bulb, at 250 for the first couple weeks, about 20-24 inches away, then you can kick it up to 400 for a few weeks, then kick up to 600 for rest of veg. Then switch to 600 watt HPS for flowering.

Hi

Looking for some help. I have an AGLEX 2000W Cob LED light in a 4x4 grow tent. Recommended height on light says 4.5ft from canopy? 1st off, that seems to high and secondly, I haven’t the height in my tent to be able to maintain that height throughout the grow! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I keep my burple light about 18" above my plants.

@CanadianTrooper, that’s a pretty strong light with the cobs but 4.5 ft from canopy seems a bit ridiculous, I’d try 24-30 inches from canopy and see how that goes, if plant starts drooping or leaves start canoeing, then kick it up a little.

just got my light meter. I hear growers saying 18 inches to 24 inches from the light ,depending on the wattage ,I read somewhere the meter should read between 1000–1200 for veg stage, what are your guide lines on that thanks RAY

Depends on what unit of measurement your meter uses, if talking PPFD, 400-600 is all that’s needed for good veg, 700 and up for flowering.

I HAVE A EL200K DIGITAL LIGHT METER, AND ON THE READ OUT SCREEN, IT SHOWES THE NUMBER AND IT SHOWES A.-- LUX --TO THE RIGHT OF THE NUMBER. I AN NOT SURE WHAT PPFD, MEANS THANKS ray

IT HAS A SWITCH TO CHANGE TO FC OR LUX WHITCH SHOULD I USE THANKS ray

Doesn’t seem to really matter, LUX and FC are used more in the photography world and PPFD for plants, here’s a conversion chart that gives an idea of how the values convert, using a specific light but close enough to get the idea.
