I have seeds that an old grower gave me to germinate because he wants to grow his strains again since its legal now. These seeds are from the 70s! I’m having trouble sprouting them because they are soo old. I have a bunch so i can keep trying. What’s the best way to sprout these old beans?
I followed ilgm seed sprouting instructions with no luck.
It’s totally possible so don’t give up, however depending on what conditions they where kept in, 50 years is a long time.
If i had a bunch I’d try a bunch on a cup of water and see what pops.
Rolling a peice of sandpaper up liie you going snort a line with it and then drop some seeds inside holding the ends closed with 2 fingers and give them a shake, this should help scuff them up a little, soak in water with a little bit of h2o2 and cross your fingers.
Clone whatever you get luck with if ya need alot of plants .
Soaking old cannabis seeds in kelp extract can indeed boost germination success. Many growers follow this practice by immersing seeds in a solution of kelp and water for approximately 24 hours before planting. The benefits of this method include:
Faster Germination: Soaked seeds tend to germinate more quickly.
Reduced Risk of Failure: The soak lowers the chances of germination failure.
Gibberellins: Kelp extract contains plant growth hormones called gibberellins, which play a crucial role in promoting stem elongation and inducing germination.
To try this method, you can soak your cannabis seeds in diluted kelp extract before planting. Happy gardening! .
Personally I wouldnt waste my time on a seed from the 70s. You’ll have to be on the look out for males or youll really tick off the fem growers within a 10 m radius. Ruderalis strains are sold feminized nowadays.
