Growtent on a budget

So, I’m on a very tight budget. After reading an article about a test between Mylar, Aluminum foil and white board (Mylar is not the best), I came up with an idea. This is a normal wardrobe moving box. Keep in mind it’s not finished! I lined the inside with reflective insulation. I used spray adhesive and reflective tape. I’m still working on making it light proof. I will be adding ventilation and lighting. What do you think? Input and ideas are appreciated.

@Atdoughboy how will you hang a light in there?

That was my first thought as well

From the metal hanging rod it comes with (not pictured).

I like your style “thinking outside the box” :star_struck:

@Atdoughboy will the box be sitting on the floor or raised? Everything you add above is making the space shorter. Autos seem to be smaller so maybe growing one of those in there might work?

A spare closet would work, too. You will need fans and exhaust, also. Way to think…

I dont have a spare closet. I rent a basement.:stuck_out_tongue:

@Atdoughboy what size containers will you be using? They fill a certain height and the lights hanging will also. What’s left in between? Remember if your plants touch the light they’ll likely burn.

I alredy have some feminized seeds sprouting. I will be training the branches to spread out to the sides when they are ready. This will be used to grow 1 plant.

@Atdoughboy ok so a photo plant. You’ll want to flip it as soon as it’s sexually mature to keep her short. Blast her azz with light intensity for tighter node spacing as well. Topping will further control her shape with your lst.

5 gal fabric pots. This box will be used for 1 plant. I may have to get a refrigerator box!

@Atdoughboy or leave out the bottom and raise the box level with the top of the container then open the top and put the light above the lid so you also don’t lose room in the ceiling area. Have the box at vegetation level reflecting the light to the leaves.

If you spill water/nutes or get the box wet, watch for mildew and/or mold. Cardboard is reeeeal susceptible to it.

In these moments before you do a thing, reason has its final chance to make you take stock of yourself and the thing you are about to do. I wish to be the voice of reason…

The smell, Even while “controlled” by a charcoal filter, is not fully contained. Especially at harvest!
It is unwise to shit where you sleep so be sure not to put your home and rental history in Jeopardy. Will the landlords who live upstairs smell the marijuana and become curious? Maybe even kick you out. If its against the law in your state, could be bad news.
I dont expect you to answer any of this, for me that is, you are undoubtedly considering everyghing Ive just said even if briefly and with a snort of derision. Which was all reason asked of me.

Love your box idea, hate cardboard but love ingenuity.

First let me say great ingenuity on ur box. I hope it works I thought of trying that but ran into issues. You will need to have so type of vents and air circulation. Don’t know ur budget but this is the tent I have. Used for photos and autos. Also an in-line fan with carbon filter run you another 100-150

Also check growing it in a “space bucket”. It is a good and cheap stealthy setup and you can grow “sea of greens”. I personally started it under a 3 ft barrel, 2 x 85 watt CFL bulb and a 120 mm pc fan on top for exhaust and few holes at bottom for passive intake.

I used the exact same thing for my build!

I would put a hole in each side of the box and push a curtain rod through the holes that way u can hang ur light safely
