Alright, I’m taking the plunge. I’ve got a 2x4x7 closet and my ilgm starter seeds. Not including pots and soil, I’ve got a $300 budget for tent/lights/accessories.
What grow tent kit should I get off of Amazon or other online retailer? I’m going for easy set up over maximum production at this point. A year from now I’ll be in a position to upgrade system but it’s all I can afford for now.

can you skip the tent and just use the $$$ for a light ?
I can’t comment on a tent as I built my own room but as far as lights and air. Search for a reasonable hlg light they have a nice mars light if you can swing it on there. They have nice 6 “ exhaust fans with carbon filters that are relatively cheap. Make sure you check the actual watt pull from the wall watt per gram will depend on what power your light is actually running a full spectrum light is what’s working best for me right now. Also will have to think about a dehumidifier to keep the humidity down in the room and need a fan to circulate the air. Walmart has cheap floor fans they will pull the cooler air from the floor
I wish I had a 2x4 closet. I bought a 2x4 tent. Use that money for a light and exhaust instead. @dbrn32 will light u up
If you live in a legal to grow place look into getting a meiju light on alibaba for like 140 if not get a 260 xl from hlg with the code dude for 340 it’s worth the extra cash you’ll also want a humidifier then eventually at flower time a dehumidifier and remember you’re trying to grow 4+ ounces on a 1 ounce budget you gotta invest to get started right or you’ll just be spending even more later for upgrades
I have a 2x4 and use two HLG 100 v2 3000k I got for $150 each, I like having two lights because plants are always different hights and I have more control. You can use code dude and save 10% I’m told…

Another vote for skipping the tent, unless you absolutely have to have it. Spend that money on a light, a fan, and a means of controlling humidity. I grow in a closet without a tent too.
Where does your ventilation go to?
If you have a light fixture in the top of the closet then you can temporarily take it down and throw the exhaust fan up through the hole used for the closet light.
It goes out my door into the hallway into a carbon filter while I get fresh air through the houses ventilation system
Get the hlg 135 rspec and use the promo code dude. 177$ and it’s better then Mars hydro or anything. I’m using that and a hlg 65 v2 4000k and I have 4 plants. All autos. 2×8 space.
All you really need is good lights and a a couple fans, a ph meter, and nutes. You’ll be good for your first grow. Then you slowly upgrade when possible.

If you have a 300$ budget, dont worry about the carbon filter or any of that. Regular fans will work for now. But if you already got it, use it I guess.
Imo $300 is tough to be successful with. Light to flower a 2x4 could easily exceed that. Even buying budget minded stuff and squeaking by, things will get costly in a hurry. For this reason, I would advise in ditching tent idea too.
The main reason I’d like a tent is that the closet is partly used for storage of items like luggage and boxed keepsakes (I have no other place for them, very limited storage for large items here). I worry that the odor absorption during flowering would be problematic, and I’m not about to test that next time I’m in an airport.
2nd, it would take a lot of work I’m not up for to make it lightproof.
But to the overall point of investing in lights above all, I’m down.
