Germination How do you go about it

OK I have a question. Why is this such a pain to me. I don’t think I have ever tried it exactly the same way twice. So in detail how do you go about it. How many start in soil? How many in water. I have got to try to come up with something I can do over and over with success.

Water, moist paper towel, direct to dirt. There are many ways. I personally just drop my seed into a root riot plug in a dish with a seedling heat mat under it. As long as there is moisture you cant go wrong. Some seeds can also take longer than the one next to it.

I soak seeds for 24 hours in a cup of a couple inches of RO water and a splash of peroxide. Then into a MOIST paper towel folded over them a couple times. I place this into a plastic baggie with a lil air in it. Put baggie somewhere warm like a window ledge or ontop of a seedling mat. Want it about 80 degrees if you can, just not cold or in the sun. Cover with a towel if you have to.

Check every 24 hours. Once taproot is 1/4 inch long I plant into soil. Taproot down.

They make seed germinators.

Thank you Serf. That is what I tried this time. Not all opened up but some did. How long do seeds last if kept dry and in the dark?

If kept stored properly, many years. The germination rate might go down some but otherwise a long time.

Soak my seeds in warm water in a dark warm room. All of them pop a tail with in 3 days.

My last 3 seeds i did the same way but added a few drops of peroxide and all 3 had a tail on day 2. Once they have a tail they either go into solo cups or 5gal bag :v:

I sow mine directly into rock wool cubes soaked in pH corrected tap water, then shook hard to remove the excess moisture, works for me in under 5 days!

Get some fox farm happy frog soil, and solo cups. Moisten the soil, and fill the solo cup. Plant the seed directly into the soil (not very deep), spray a little water on it to settle the seed, and stick a baggie over the top to make a little greenhouse. Keep it warm, and it should break ground in about 3 days. I get 100% germination.

12-24hr soak in a medicine cup or shot glass. Half tap, half distilled water, keep dark and moderately warm, 75-80°f.

Seed should crack by then.

12-24hr in folded, damp paper towel, in a ziploc bag, not totally closed. Same scene, dark and warm.

A tail should be coming out of the seed.

These first 2 processes can take a little longer, so don’t get impatient.

When you have a 1/4-1/2" tail, plant in damp medium approx 1/4-" under said medium.

@Docnraq method is a proven method and the one I use. I do occasionally use a direct seed drop when I don’t have the time to be there but the water and paper towel will have sprouts in 2 days versus 5 or more waiting with a direct drop :love_you_gesture:

There is a thread dedicated to this with multiple growers that germ with different methods. I use the same method as above. Beans go in the water with a splash of Hydro Perox. Tail within 24 hours and plant. Warmth is the key. Keep them in an environment from bean to seedling at about 80ºF and 80% humidity.

My input which is step by step with pics at each step begins at post 40 I believe.

I’ve been dropping my seeds in a cup of water for about 12 hours stored in a dark warm room if they don’t sink I’ll let them sit until they do then i just drop them into soil I’ve had pretty good success with only one not germinating

Hi
I want to that all of you for your helpful reply’s. I don’t know why this is such a hard thing for me to get a handle on. Of the over 1000 dollars worth of seeds I have bought from ILGM 50% of the have never made it though germination. I have never turned any of them in for replacements because I know that what ever the problem is must be of my making. This last time I put them in water and a few sprouted tails and I put them in FF happy frog. I even put the ones that didn’t sprout in soil just in case they might come up. After two weeks NOT ONE has peaked it’s head up. I think I’ll stop now as I think I’m starting to whine. Anyway thanks again for those who have left their suggestion.

Never hurts to hit them up and ask about it and maybe get replacments. If they were popping, growing a little then dying you could lean on grower mistake. But if they arent germinating, not your fault imo. If i spent that much money especially on seeds id at least try and look for a solution with the vendor.

Hi Serf
Thank you for your reply. I might see about a few replacement but we shall see.
