Best way to germinate seeds

I’ve watched videos and read articles about germinate seeds. I’ve never done it always had clones, so what’s the best method?

There will be several answers here, I’ll give you mine.
Soak over night to soften the outside shell with a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide.
After they split open I transfer to a warm 80°-85° Moistened paper towel inside a zip lock mostly sealed. (Not quite all the way) I wait for about 1/4” tail, then I transfer to a rapid rooter.

I put mine in a folded paper towel that’s moist, usually I spray it with a water bottle. Place it in a dark drawer in my desk. 24-36 hrs I’ve got tails. Never had a seed not germinate that way so I just keep doing it that way. @Covertgrower way I’ve also seen be successful. So many ways you just have to find the one that works best for you.

Best to keep the light on 24/7 for the babies? Or a normal 18/6 is best??

I do 18/6 once the seeds are planted after sprouting.

I do 24 hours in water, then straight to soil , 8 for 8 so far, with sprouts in 3 days

I’ve done the moist paper towel method it’s the way I started out. It’s works great. Now I use the couple drops hydrogen peroxide to a couple ounces of water. It’s faster in my opinion. They both work well. I’ve started in darkness and I’ve started in light. Happy growing :sunglasses::v::call_me_hand:

I use the same soak, paper towel technique, the key is not to over water once in dirt. I always water in a pan and let it wick up into the dirt.

The company I get my seeds from #ILgm Says soak you seeds in the cup with a little pH water until sprouts form Mostly successful and if you buy from ilgm They will guarantee germination

Yes I’ll send them a email if you don’t get sprouts

Just started my first grow - autoflower mix pack.
soaked 1 blue, 1 northern lights in 1/4 inch water for 2 days in 85 degree garage.
planted the 2 I soaked and 1 amnesia day 3.
had Cotyledons day 5 of 2 I soaked and day 7 Amnesia popped up
2 weeks later 2 I soaked are 2x size of amnesia.
no tails when I put then under 1/4inch soil
for me, 2 day soak seemed to work well

I found the hard way it depends on the seeds

I soak and ilgm It says soak into seeds popped into quarter inch tail

I was 19/20 with my WWA seeds going straight into starter medium. 3 or4 days later (5 at most) they sprouted. I even did 2 straight into 7 gal grow bags during my Spring grow and they popped like clockwork. This year I am less than 50/50 success rate with Blueberry Auto and GSCX auto. Not sure if its the seeds or what bur I just dropped 0ne of each for a fall grow and neither have popped and tomorrow will be 7 days.

I’ll give the soaking and paper towel method a try, I’ve been very disappointed with these seeds, only thing that eases the pain is ILGM’s germination guarantee.

Make sure you tell them that you lead the seed so soak in a cup of water that’s how you germinated that’s the only way they guarantee germination

Day 7 and no babies -

Started 2 more using soak method. Fingers crossed-

Nees advise, most of my germination has been directly in soil but these BBA and GSCX Auto are giving a hella hard time.

Most everything I have read says not to let seeds soak more than 24 hours because it can “drown”. RB’s Grow Bible says up to 48 hours…what do I do? They have been soaking since 0830 this morning.

Like I’ve stated, I’m new to soking method. Was waiting for bean to sink for 24 hours, never happened. Came hime from dinner to find hull and sprout floating separately. Took seedling and put root tap into soil and left the cotyledon above ground. I hope I did this correctly. Still waiting on the GSCX Auto bean to do something…nothing yet on that one.

That would probably be my luck too… I’m a Navy vet myself, fleet air reconnaissance squadron did 9 1/2 years.
