On Thursday I started to germinate the 4 GSCE autoflower seeds by starting with a 12-hour choke in a glass of distilled pH room temperature water.
Shells cracked after 12 hours left them in for an additional 5 hours and transferred them to a moist paper towel on Friday and placed them in a Ziploc bag putting them in a dark closet on a 77° germination mat.
On Saturday morning (yesterday) all four seeds showed a small taproot. I placed them back into the germination area and just recheck them this morning.
The tap Roots have not grown anymore. I’m in fear if I leave them in any longer I will drown the tap roots. Should I put them back in the germination mat until the tap Root gets longer or should I put them in the dirt now?
I’m personally accustomed to using a 1/4 in tap Root before planning but I don’t see them growing anymore. Whatch tink?
I would Put them in the soil. They will be fine.
I’d put the two longer ones in pots and the two shorter ones in a wet paper towel for another 1-2 days.
@LateNightGardner keep in mind they’ve been sitting in that humid bag for 2 days now with absolutely no growth on the tap-root…
By putting them through another two days of moist humid watery type condition do you think there’s a chance they could tap root rot?
This is been a very strange strand for germinating. Tap-Roots don’t seem to get any bigger than a few millimeters (not even an 8th inch)
Personally I just plant them after soaking 24hrs. I don’t see the need to watch the root grow. If its going to grow let it do it in the dirt.
Also I have cooked seeds to death on heating mats. They are not supposed to get hot enough to do that but mine did. One of those seeds looks off white and I wonder about whether that happed to it.?
There are many ways growers here germ seeds and my way is no better or worse. Not criticizing any method. Just saying what happened in my experience.
Thanks guys I think on this one common sense should always prevail. They haven’t moved in 2 days. You can get root rot from excessive moisture and such a small enclosed area. I’m going to plant them all
@Spiney_norman this is the third white seed that I pulled out of the bag of 20. 0% has done anything. Two out of the three were so dried out they would not even float during the 12 hour soak no matter how many times you tapped it with a pencil eraser
I just dropped 3 gsce myself.
I soak my seeds in water for 2 or 3 days. As soon as they crack I plant them. These are 5 days in the dirt.
@4204life I’m not a very big fan of this strand in germination. Seems like after a soak and moist napkin the tap Roots never grow any bigger than a pencil point (if that)… kind of throws me off thinking they’re not ready because I’m used to tap roots coming out half inch to 3/4 of an inch.
I just tossed some GSC Autos into water Saturday morning. This morning they were cracked/showing maybe a centimeter or two of root (like the 3 to the left). Not much at all, but by tonight, all 5 are going in damp soil regardless. They are ‘popped’ and should be showing their faces by tomaro night/the next day.
If not? I’m dropping more
@PurpNGold74 I think the main thing is that it popped the mother nature should do the rest. Would be a different story if they didn’t pop in the initial soak. Then I would move them to The damp Towel method. I didn’t want to risk drowning them. Good luck my friend
I soak in 3 part water 1 part peroxide for 12 hours. I then plant directly into soil. 100% germ rate and these popped within 2 days.
These are my brand new babies.
