First time growing, decided to go with autoflowers on the first round. Trying 2 different strains Girl Scout cookies extreme and Gorilla Glue, both autos. Started germinating 07/17, and had 1 of each break through the soil 07/21 (planted 4 of each strain). Running 2 ac infinity 4x4 grow tents. Here are pics of them in the humidity dome, inside one of the tents. Any advice will be appreciated on this experience, and I’ll post more updates as the plants grow!
Welcome aboard!!! You’ll like that GSCE! Mine have all started to flower right between 4-5 weeks and we’re ready to harvest at 11-12. You’re in a great place!!! Good luck and happy growing!!!
Thanks! Just hoping the other 6 germinate soon, going on day 5 since the seeds were planted.
What method did you use to germinate? Break down the process for me.
Well I read at first with the humidity dome to just plant the seeds 1/2” into soil, watered soil a little prior. Did not soak the seed or put in paper towel, just straight into soil, covered up and added a little bit more water. Closed all vents turned heating pad on medium, and adjusted when rh started climbing. Eventually turning the pad off and pulling lid off to lower humidity a bit and saw 2 sprouts. Then I turned the light on to 10% since the new sprouts drooped over, no heating pad on anymore and rh is hanging around 80% now. And watered a little more since the soil felt dry. Balanced out water to 6.5 ph and another bottle with nutrients balanced to use every other feeding.
And opened up the vents on the dome to help with humidity.
This could be the reason for the slow sprout. I soak for up to 24hrs, then wet paper towel in a Ziploc for another 24. Usually have a tail by then, and then plant about 1/4". A half inch is on the deeper end for planting, but shouldn’t be anything to fret over. I’ve read of them taking upwards of 10-14 days planting straight into soil.
Check the pH once a day. I mix nutes (Using Jack A&B) that I use over a few days, and pH can drift upwards. It’s a lot better to mix and use ASAP to avoid this. Plus, when pH does drift, you have to adjust it so you’re putting more stuff in than just your nutes.
Also, in the future, if using distilled or RO water on water only days, there is no need to adjust pH. Distilled/RO water has virtually 0ppm, so there is no pH to adjust. But if you use RO/distilled to mix nutes, be sure to add a small amount of CalMag or Silica first. This will help avoid major pH swings.
Yeah I figured I made a mistake at first, but didn’t find this forum until after planting. Glad I found it, thanks for the help!
Welcome to the neighborhood @Sandman420 glad you found your way to the right place!
Eh, you didn’t make a mistake. Mother nature don’t use a Ziploc lol. You just took a road less traveled. As long as the top of the soil is moist enough to let the seed hull soften up a tad, you’re good.
Haha thanks for easing the nerves! Definitely trying other methods next grow.
Just posting an update it’s been about a week since the first 2 seeds popped through the soil, and so far only 5 of the 8 seeds germinated. Giving the other seeds a couple more days to pop through before germinating new seeds.
Plants are 3 weeks old, had to deal with root shock from transplant. Seems like they recovered well and learned from a few mistakes.
This picture didn’t upload in the last message but this one is GSCE and the other picture is the gorilla glue. Got Bruce banner transplanted into the other tent and can post pics soon!
Was off to a bit of a rough start, but surprisingly the plants look pretty healthy and are getting pretty big! Found 1 or 2 pistil hairs on the tallest plant. Learned lots so far and still working out the wrinkles that more experience will bring.
Here’s more pictures of the original 5, gg4 and gsce, they were just watered (a little too much) so they are drooping. But zoomed in and those look like pistils I believe. Not sure what’s causing the yellowing on the tips, maybe potassium deficiency, feed nutrients this time around.
