About to do some cloning for first time. Waiting for supplies to arrive from my Amazon order. Got plugs and ac infinity humidity some and clonex. Saw vids how to take cuttings and the process including scrapping bottom of stem and cutting leaves in half and misting inside of dome and to gradually reduce humidity to point of leaving open and transplanting. Got 5 gallon fabric pots and pro mix hp for when they have roots. Mother plant is in 20 gallon tote with miracle grow potting mix and miracle grow “spring ahead” fertilizer. This is my first grow. Mother plant seems fine and doing well in said setup. The fabric pots will be new to me as well as the cloning process. Reason I got miracle grow spring ahead fertilizer was because it’s fully inorganic and was hoping it would have zero odor. It works well but had to throw away other totes cause the miracle grow potting mix gave off odors that caused me to have health issues. So, I want to get rid of what the mother plant is in too but can’t till after cloning is done. Thinking about switching fertilizer even though it works good and is simple (just had to use it once and it’s been about a month and a half now and still strong good green growth) because I want to eliminate any possible odor/health issues related. I could get potassium phosphate, potassium nitrate and mix a solution to water with but I doubt there are any super clean powders that I would trust to not contaminate my plant and end product. Plus it wouldn’t have copper and all the rest of the minerals to grow a plant that’s healthy or healthy to eat. That’s why I got miracle grow spring ahead. Feed once and it lasts 6 months, but is low in the phosphorus department, so might not be great for flowering but great for veg. But who knows, maybe phosphorus is not needed in as high amounts as people make it seem like for flowering. I sometimes think about getting Gaia green 444 and 284 as some organic growers use, but they tend to have an overcomplicated process that requires extra other things for the plant to grow and flower good like cal mag or Epsom salt or worm teas or all sorts of products they advertise. One farm I used to get hemp from said they only used manure from their cows and river water from the stream that flows through their farm out in Oregon to grow their hemp . Nothing else. Makes sense but they are also growing in outside dirt that has probably all the rest of the micronutrients and stuff. I don’t really want to grow hydroponically because from what I’ve seen the buds from in dirt grown situations seem healthier, not necessarily always more visually appealing, just healthier. From my research microbes convert organic fertilizer into inorganic fertilizer and it’s the inorganic form plants use. So, using miracle grow spring ahead skips the microbe step by providing what the plants need directly, but Skipping that step must skip other things that make the plant look healthier when using organic fertilizer. But a reason to not get organic fertilizer is because, well, it’s poop and other processed things that could be more hazardous than using a chemical fertilizer created in a lab environment. Decisions decisions. I just want a clean end product that doesn’t put off any fumes/odors from the fertilizer while growing. Pro mix hp is just perlite and peat moss, so it shouldn’t have any problematic odors unlike the miracle grow potting mix that has “forest products” and weird hay like smell and unknown actual composition. I thought about Coco coir and perlite but too many issues I’ve read about needing to add cal mag and other things just to be able to grow. Peat moss and perlite is a simple way. I just need to think of an odorless simple smart fertilizer to use now to replace my miracle grow spring ahead fertilizer. Any tips for first time cloning or for odorless simple clean fertilizers are appreciated. I grow inside my apartment and the carbon filter seems to emit carbon particles or something that bugs me so I don’t like running it and can’t vent it where I live. I’ve seen filter boxes you can attach to duct output end that uses a sort of basic rectangle air filter to catch small particulates but not sure if it will help, cause the carbon filter could also be emitting fragrances/odors in vapor form. When I first started running it it smelled like something was burning. Got it from ac infinity thinking id avoid problems by “getting the best” but they don’t seem to be as good as people portray them or I just got the one bad product. Their in line fan doesn’t seem that great for the price either. Can’t really go higher than 2 or it’s annoying. I got the pwm version, not the triac dimmer version. It’s the more expensive one thats not supposed to have any electrical humming. Personally I think they are way overcharging for what they give. They could make it the best and sell it for the same price just make less profit, but still would make more than other competitors due to actually providing the best. But no, I bet the cheaper competition probably provides the same or very similar quality for less. Think about the humidity dome. It’s like 40 bucks and you could go to Walmart for a giant tote with a lid for 6 bucks. I got the dome cause I don’t want to mess up my clones but you get the point. They could charge way less and still make super profit. Thing that sucks today is lots of businesses care more about money than anything else. We all need each other to survive. A business providing a good product at a good price helps the people they sell it to do the same. Businesses that make cheap products and sell for high prices just makes life more difficult for everyone. Lots of people use these products to create a product they give away or sell to other people. It should be illegal to do things that make it more difficult for our species to survive. An analogy is like you are on a race and are jogging 5 miles and people are in front of you trying to push you back and making it difficult for you to move forward, which causes you all sorts of stress and to get worn out more than if they weren’t doing that and makes it really really difficult for you to succeed. Businesses shouldn’t be allowed to do that with overpriced shit. we are all on the same team and we are all trying to succeed at surviving. We should all be doing are part to help each other survive not the opposite. Something must be really really messed up if ones own species is making surviving difficult. Have you ever heard of other species that do things to prevent their own survival? It’s just not natural.
Welcome to the forum.
You’re gonna get a whole lot of TLDR. Do you have a specific question? Let’s address them a few at a time.
Welcome…
We are not natural. We are a virus. We consume, destroy, replicate and move on and do it again. Cannot speak for the rest of the globe but in America, we are consumer based. They make it, we buy it and planned obsolescence is real and started with the light bulb. Shit is made to be broken, thrown out and replaced often. The back end is terrible and other countries are suffering from our trash. Nothing plastic is truly recycled. The logo for recycling and the type of plastic is all a lie.
Now on to the good stuff, if you can throw out your miracle gro I would do so and get a cannabis friendly soil that is not time released. Miracle Gro is owned by Monsanto and based on all that you said, you sound like a person that spends their money wisely. Monsanto is a monster in Business form.
Better options are anything Foxfarms, Coast of Maine, Roots organic, Indicanja and several more.
@MidwestGuy what is TLDR?
Your materials for clones will work. I use plugs in a propogator using clonex products. My first attempts failed as I over saturated the plugs. I just keep them moist in a humid propogator and light. I am about to flip my first clones into flower. Good luck.
I can see how you think that, but I think that only really refers to the portion of humans that are more hurtful than helpful to the planet and to our species. I think the Bible indirectly points out humans purpose by the story about Adam and Eve and the garden of Eden. It’s in our nature to nurture. I think our purpose is to take care of this planet and each other. If we think about how life works, it’s complex symbiotic cycles, intertwined, to maintain balance and life. Our own bodies represent this and our entire existence we live in. Things that cause sickness do that because they don’t provide anything beneficial to the organism, instead it provides things that do the opposite, which make the person or organism sick and then it’s systems try to rid it to restore balance life. This occurs on large scale too. Some portion of our species take care of the planet and some act like a sickness. Humans need to be perceived as more of a beneficial symbiotic organism rather than a an organism that is perceived as a non beneficial threat so our world doesn’t take measures to rid us to restore balance and life
Not going to get into a religious discussion but I just want to say one thing. Your perception on the Garden and in our nature to nurture is the opposite of what that story was telling us. It is in our nature to Sin. If it was the other way around, the apple would not have been consumed, they would still be God’s caretakers in the garden “nurturing” the environment.
I appreciate your comments.
I think what it shows is we have free will and the ability to make decisions even if those decisions are considered bad or a sin and that doing so can incur consequences either bad or good depending on the decisions made. The Bible is also not pure. It has been around for a super long time and seems to have been made to be more oriented to slaves obeying a master. The garden of Eden was just an example of a text from a book that’s been around for a long time that indirectly portrays what humans purpose is. And we can use that part about the ability to sin and have consequence to further verify the rest of my other comment about the possibility of humans being wiped out as a result of making choices that portray us as a threat to the survival of the complex interwoven symbiotic cycles that produce and maintain life on earth
I also think the story regarding Noah is also related to this topic and an indirect way of portraying things can occur to wipe the human species out of they are portrayed as bad as a whole. Even if proven corrupted, the Bible seems to have “prophetic” or otherwise difficult to explain properties
You should also consider science and the way life works regarding things that make us sick is a real aspect of life that can be applied to our world on a large scale which is a situation where science and the Bible align. the way our bodies try to exterminate an organism or otherwise that is causing sickness as a way to restore health and the ability to keep living can be applied on large scale where we are perceived as the organism that is making this planet sick and is perceived as needs to be exterminated to restore balance and to ensure life continues. Life is complex interwoven symbiotic cycles, which in a sense makes us like a bacteria inside a body. Obviously there are processes just like our own body has for the planet to fight off organisms that are perceived as a threat to the ability to survive. Maybe plants will perceive humans as a threat, there is a very complex system that enabled life to exist on earth. Many things could happen if we don’t portray our species as a whole as beneficial symbiotic organisms to this planet
