First time and need a little help

I am in Michigan and since we cant put plants out for another 4 or 5 weeks I started 7 plants inside and plan to move them outside first week of June into the garden. I started in solo cups and will move to 3 gal pots when ready than to there final spot when the weather cooperates. I dont have a tent so just have a light on them. Is this ok to do till they are ready to move out? Once in the pots I will move them outside during the day when the temps are right. The picture was taken on day 8. Any

advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Yeah thats fine whats the wattage of your light by chance? Are they autoflowers or photoperiod? Got to keep a certain light schedule if photoperiod but seedlings dont need a strong light till they get older so youll be okay

Welcome to the community, I would say if you have a spare closet I would utilize that space and make a small makeshift grow room for your girls. Having less area for your light to cover I feel it would be best.

Using a closet will also make it much easier to control the environment they need to strive. Judging by the picture it looks like they’re already getting pretty leggy in growth (reaching for more light). I believe minimal wattage per plant would be 100w. You should be able to use that light for the time being but once they get bigger you’re gonna need to supplement in more light. I’m gonna say the light you have now should be roughly 18-24 inches from the top of the canopy. I would add in more soil or whatever it is you’re growing with to do away with the leggy growth and start supporting them before they top over. Temp should be roughly 75-80 degrees with the humidity about 65-70%.

Its a 100w light and I am running a 18 on and 6 off for the light. I am using fox farms ocean forest for the soil. I wasnt using the light and they did start to get leggy. Now that i have the light the seemed to slow down. They will be outside in 5 weeks so any light suggestions for the next one? I just hurry up and got this one to help with the legginess. These are all photo not auto.

Itll be okay for now but you definitely need to increase to a much larger light for the amount of plants you have i have 460w for just 4 plants in my 4x4 tent to have enough coverage. That 100w light wont cover all those plants once they get older and spread out! But i agree with getting them into a cleset and maybe a lil fan on them not too hard but just enough to make them twitch a bit.

Thanks man. I appreciate the help. Right now they are just on a table in my dinning room corner. They will be outside on days that allow it so will only be inside when weather is not good and will be outside for good in 5 weeks. Maybe i am underestimating how big they will be in 5 weeks? Or how much light i actually need?

Welcome in!
I would recommend getting the photon app so you can measure the ppfd of the light and have it at rhe height for the stage of your plants.

Yeah they can grow a decent size in lil over a month but youre ok for now look into what size lights you need for your area in the future and be careful buying lights companies will advertise that their product is this amount of watts and be nowhere near the amount you have to read the description theyll say “actual watts” total amount of watts pulled from the plug. Ive been avictim of buying low wattage lights because of that

Any suggestions on a light thats not to pricey? I dont want to dump a ton of money in this yet if the plants are going outside soon. I think I am going to put 5 in the garden and put 2 in 10 gal pots and grow them on the deck. That way I can bring those 2 inside if needed with any bad weather. Curious to see the difference between the 2 when they are ready to harvest.

I use farmlight bar lights they are not too expensive and what the wattage says is actual my plants are thriving on my lights

I have a 260w at the moment with 4 plants and my 4 plants barely cover. So I had to add 2 little 100 W light, but if you get one with the 6 bars instead of the 4, that should be enough to get you through.
If that’s not horrible, you can go ahead with the 260. It won’t hurt

I really do appreciate the help. Super nice to actually get some good responses instead of being put down or ripped on like in some other forums online. This is a great group :clap::clap:.

Spider farmer has some pretty good lights, I got my whole kit from there and haven’t regretted it since. I have the 301h right now that’s 100w but I’m only growing one plant. They have a 300w light for $230. I’ll post a link for you to check out some of their products. I’m getting ready to buy the G3000, 300w light for my 2x2. It’s going to just fit in there lol.

Temps right now, not sure exactly what your temps are but if it’s over 65-70 degrees you can slap them outside during the day and then just remember to bring them in at night because of the slight temp drops we’re having right now. I’m in PA so that’s not an option for us folks here just yet . We slap them outside and we get a unwanted knock at the door trying to steal our hard work :rofl::rofl:

Looks like you’re reaching 80 today so slap them girls out side. Tomorrow and following day look to be like it’s gonna be raining. I would leave them inside under the lights. Any days it’s gonna rain for the time beings I would leave them under the light and days where the temp doesn’t reach at least 70 I would leave them inside. 65 is okay but I don’t like my girls slightly cold unless it’s lights out time.

Welcome. I’m located in the middle of the mitten. My plants are outside almost everyday as soon as the sun comes up as the temps have been above 45 in the morning. I do bring my ladies in at night as they’re are only about 14 hours of day light at the moment and i dint want nothing to start budding. So they go under lights for about 3 extra hours inside. Where are you located at in Michigan? I also will not be planting in the ground until June maybe last week of May of plants get root bound and i have no choice. Here’s a look at a couple of my ladies from yesterday.

I’ll definitely be following along on your journey as long as you don’t mind.
