Quick questions from a new member/grower

Hello everyone, and thank you for having me. I am new to this and I have read a lot, but have a couple questions. Some background info: I live in Northern Illinois, getting feminized seeds from a friend, arriving Monday 4/13. Sour Diesel/Blackberry Kush. I am comfortable with germination/getting the seedlings going, just going to use basic garden soil, solo cup, as I do with veggies I grow. I Plan to grow outside. Planning to transplant to 5 gallon cloth containers, using Kind soil from Michigan, and coco loco, per their recommendations. Two questions. First off, once the seeds sprout, do I have to put them under lights? Or can I keep in my sunroom, 6-8 hours of light per day, until I move outside and transplant, which I am guessing will be early Mid- May? If I need to put under lights, should I only have enough light to match natural sunlight? I read if I go 18/6 for a few weeks, then move them outside, it could inhibit growth as they will think they need to flower with less sunlight hours. I am looking at buying an “outcrop innovations 100w indoor LED light, Full spectrum PAR w E27 base” from
Amazon, will that suffice if light is needed? Lastly, how big should they get before I move outside and transplant to the bigger containers. Thanks so much for any advice!! Andy

If you only need light for the first week you can grab a few CFL bulbs from walmart. They have a few cheap lights you could use on amazon but the cfls will work fine. I would give them a 20/4 light schedule for their first week. And whatever light you do go with…make sure it’s a heavy blue spectrum like 4k or 5k. Oh and welcome to the forum :v:

Thank you so much! So you are saying, after they sprout (guessing around 4/18-20), I should definitely put under some sort of light until I move outside in early/mid May? Putting them at 20/4 won’t affect them when I move them outside and the light obviously is much less than 20 hours? Thanks again!

Also, here are specs on bulb I was planning to buy, good? I figured I would buy this in the case I want to indoor grow at a later point. =)

If you are going to buy a light to actually grow a full plant under then I would NOT get it from Amazon. Their lights are always false advertised and very under powered. I can help you with building out an indoor grow if you needed help getting the right equipment. I will say that the start up costs are a touch high but very worth it in the long run.

And if you need a question just tag me by putting the @ symbol in front of my name…that way I get a notification that you replied. I didnt realize you replied back

During veg I cut big leaves from the top of the plant. You didnt hurt anything by doing what you did but it will take her a couple days to recover. For future reference, I would focus on the leaves that get big at the top of the plant. @ZigZag you can also bend that plant over to one side with some garden wire to allow the side branches to catch up.

@imSICKkid thank you. Going to start with two outdoors and one indoor this summer. May move to indoor come fall, and will definitely reach out for advice if so. Thanks again.
