First grow, White Widow too tall?

I’m confused. Based on descriptions here, my White Widows should be no more than 4 feet tall. These have barely started suggesting flowering, but they’re at least 8-9 feet tall. In fact the wind already tore off two-thirds of one of them. So I did a sort of half-assed lollipop ing to try to keep them together. Wierdly tall, yes?

Outdoor plants can get big. The size estimate cited by breeders is based on standardized testing in a controlled environment. individual results will vary based on the environment the plant is given.

Good job. She looks really healthy and will produce a lot of bud.

Gorgeous plant!
Some growers train and supercrop their plants to reduce height. @plumbdand can tag you in his journal.

You are all very kind. I’ve been growing food organically for decades, and I’m trying to apply those practices to my weed grow. It’s different, though, innit?

Nice plant!!! They are gonna get taller during the stretch and they’re gonna need some support during flower. As the colas get fatter and heavier branches will bend and break if not supported. Broken branches can be mended. I use teflon tape to wrap around the break after securing the broken branch using electrical wire.

Damn I bet that plant celebrates arbor day!

I’ll try to fit a couple of tomato cages around them tomorrow to help with support, but I don’t see much I can do for the 9-10 foot bits. I never expected this kind of height!

Hang some wires from the side of the house up as high as possible then run wires from that to branches when they need help

Yes! We were just out there looking and thinking about that. Fortunately, there are already screws set into the lower side of the roof for supporting vining crops. They should work to anchor all but the tallest bits…we hope. Anything higher will be dangerous for us, but if absolutely necessary, we could call in help. (We’re old.)

Wait, though! Once the weather cools and we can remove the window AC above the low roof, we could actually tie the uppermost branches to anchors in the room on the second floor. (I just hope it doesn’t all get too obvious from the street!)

Thank you :blush::v:

Another picture…another question: I find a couple of these damaged leaves every other day. The tan blotches look like simple mechanical damage to me, maybe from the wind blowing branches against each other or supports? Everything else looks very healthy, so I just pick these off. Am I wrong?

About 7 to 8 foot seems to be the average size for outdoor ILGM White Widow a pound a plant and I’ve seen some larger. I think the 4 ft is in pots indoor, I have no idea who puts that info up but it’s wrong on alot of strains.
