First grow ever! Auto BBY

Plants utilize darkness to send sugars into the roots and discharge salts as they rest. And above a certain light level, they can’t go any faster so it’s burning money for nothing.

Hey guys here are some updates pics…I’m watering once a day usually in the mornings about 4am. I’m giving them 8oz of water each Aquafina/R.O. and the ph comes out at 6.83-6.89 (I just check it before I give it to them to make sure) the smaller of the plant is getting some real real light yellow color but no drooping of the leaves…should I worry? I haven’t started any kind of feeding yet.

I wouldn’t be watering every day. I would up the amount of water you give to get some runoff and wait a few days until the soil dries out. Your leaf tips may get burned a bit because the ffof is pretty hot soil. No need to worry about nutrients right now. You will want to start monitoring your runoff soon. This will let you know when to begin giving nutrients, by watching your ppms fall to around 800ish.

I would just keep an eye on that. You don’t want it to creep any higher. They look good

And @imSICKkid is right you you don’t want to start feeding quite yet

I bet that with him using aquafina, the soil probably buffers it down. And I’m all to well with low ph in ffof lmao in flower that’s probably what he’s gonna be going in at lol

I always see my water drift up toward base so usually try to introduce water at 6.1 to 6.3 which is my sweet spot for FFOF. That said; low TDS water doesn’t really need PH’ing as it will be driven to whatever the soil’s PH is, instantly. In fact technically you can NOT get a PH reading from 0 TDS water. Any reading is suspect as there is literally nothing there to drive it.

Exactly right.

The others have you set in my opinion.

So ppms is what exactly? So testing my bottled water for ph is not a correct reading? If what it is showing is in the 6.5-6.8 range should I base it down from what you said to 6.1-6.5?

“the soil is buffering out my water”… What did you mean? To buffer something means too soften it…right?

Awesome awesome feedback guys!!! I so much appreciate you all, even if I’m doing something wrong I appreciate all criticism. I know no matter what it will help me in this grow and the next!!! This is the best support group I’ve ever found!!

parts per million or ppm means out of a million. Usually describes the concentration of something in water or soil. One ppm is equivalent to 1 milligram of something per liter of water (mg/l) or 1 milligram of something per kilogram soil (mg/kg).

Your soil will buffer the r/o you are putting into it because the water has very little ppm. It will instantly match your soils ph as it goes in. So if your using r/o water there is no need to ph. UNTIL…you start add nutrients into your water. At that point, you would add your nutrients, wait about 30 minutes, then come back and check/adjust your ph before feeding.

I’m a visual/hands on kinda guy. These helped me better understand

He is in soil so his ph is going to be higher then a soiless medium.

I gotcha. Was just basically referring to the visual aspect of it.

To add to the confusion lol…we use a meter that measures electrical conductivity and converts it into meaningful data for us: both TDS (Temporary Dissolved Solids) and PH. They aren’t exactly correct but good enough for our purposes. (For example, take a TDS of a solution and then add table sugar–it won’t change) The PH will though.

If you want a true TDS you have to weigh the solution and evaporate everything away and weigh again. That’s the only real accurate way to measure TDS. Not workable so we use these meters. And they do a pretty good job.

Thank you fellas! That Info is much appreciated. I’m really scared to do any trimming just yet cause these are my very first plants ever. I like the pics of what to do and where but I’d rather have a harvest and try something new on my next set of plants.

So today is day 27-29 something like that. I wasn’t very good a documenting my exacts, and in detail. I’m learning what to do for the next few I set in motion in The months to come.

So today I clipped the fan leaves, and I didn’t take too many. I hope everything will turn out ok. I kept feeling like these leaves were getting in the way of my bud sites so I tried it. What do you all think about that? Do you guys trim your fan leaves too?

I was recommended to as well. So of course I did nervous as all be lol. But they seem to be responding very well. Helps air flow everything is getting light. Makes a lot of sense to trim now.
