I am having heat problems already. My 4x4 tent is located in my garage. It’s not feasible to cool the entire garage. Has anyone tried using a portable water chiller? Found one on Amazon for $179. Help!!!
are you running hydro? A water chiller won’t help with the grow space temps and RH Grow Bro. I grow in my garage and had to get a portable AC and a 70 pint dehumidifier for the Carolina heat and humidity
@OGIncognito how are you set up with your ac unit? Are you cooling the entire garage or just your grow tent?
I went from a 2 car down to a single, the single is definitely easier. I did insulate and drywall the walls on the 2 car spot. Just drywall in the single garage and on both I cooled the whole garage. The 70 pint dehumidifier works like a champ. I would have temps in the 90s without it. They both keep the garage and what I call the lung room environmental conditions on point. When I was running 3 tents and a closet my electric bill went up $125-150 a month, with 2 tents and a smaller lung room it’s around $55-$70 extra a month
@OGIncognito I’m using soil ffhf. I found a 8000 btu portable ac unit for $229. Says it will cool 300 cu ft. Not a water chiller. Do you think this will work?
That’s a really sweet deal. I have a 5500 and it keeps the temps in check on a 240 sq ft garage so I think that’ll work
@OGIncognito thanks man, this unit will take up one cubic foot of my tent. I was beginning to think I was. Screwed.
Keep in mind that you will have to deal with hot exhaust air from a portable air conditioner. You’ll need to run the exhaust duct outside of your grow area. I ran one a few years ago. They do exhaust quite a bit of hot air.
@MidwestGuy thanks, I will place my order today.
Before I insulated and added drywall my garage was HOT! I taped a flex line to the AC and ran it to a bottom port of the tent and that worked perfect. I used flex and inline duct fans to connect the other 2 tents to the main tent basically pulling cool air that was forced into tent #1. Each had its own exhaust fan up high to exhaust the heat. As @MidwestGuy mentioned on exhausting the AC. I cut a hole on the garage side wall and installed a typical dryer vent pipe for this
Happy growing, @Dj351.
I am looking into adding a portable ac unit into my grow room. Temps are still ok day to day right now. But tennessee summer and humidity will be here real soon.
@TeNNWisKeY good morning, I found an 8000btu portable at Walmart for $268. That’s the cheapest I have found.
Water chillers actually are a feasable solution to your problem if you set them up right. What you need to do to utilize one is set up a box like for a heater core in a car. You use a heater core inside the box with flanges on each side of the box the size of your duct work and have your intake air blow through it. The more cores you have in a row with cold water running through them then the greater cooling you will have
Thats similar to what im looking for too. My one concern is i will have to hook the exhaust port to my ceiling vent to remove hot air. By doing this i will have to let my 6 inch fan and carbon filter open ending in the room to circulate and clean the air outside of the tents. Hopefully this will still keep the smell unnoticeable outside my grow room.
@TeNNWisKeY hello, how’s everything going today? How’s your grow? Mine is looking good. I ordered the ac unit from Walmart, be here in a week. I will be able to veg a couple more weeks and flower till end of June without worrying about the heat. Maybe even start a Summer grow. I’m near Lafayette. We should stay in touch. I’ve been growing outdoors for many years, just came indoors a few years ago. Happy growing
Two godfathers and a incredible bulk.
Some nice looking plants sir. I currently have 3 going right now.
1 all gas og fem seed
1 poddy mouth fem seed
1 bluecheese auto.
The auto started preflower this week, they are all about 40 days old right now.
This is just my second year of growing indoors. So far i enjoy it, but still have tons to learn
@TeNNWisKeY I grew outdoors for a good 40 years, guerilla style on corp property, etc. I have been growing indoors now for about 5 years. This is my second tent grow. I used a 5. X5 closet in basement. I was using a 1000 w hps light. Grew some awesome bud. Happy growing
You can still run an exhaust fan with filter, just add a fan for intake to blow through the cold air exchanger. I havent seen any commercially made ones in a while. I could just make my own with a heater core, wood and weatherstripping
Evap chillers are only good in real dry places like Arizona @Dj351 …I built one years back for here in NC and it didn’t do much at all.
