Air conditioning in tent

I have a 4x4tent with 6" exhaust and carbon filter. Has a xp3000 light. The only place I could place the tent was in my garage. I overcame the cold by putting a small heater with thermostat in my tent. Now it’s only April but on 80 degree days , my tent hits 90. I researched evaporator chillers and decided to go ac. I bought a 8000 btu ac unit and installed it outside my tent. I cut a hole out in tent wall for a blower. Check this out. Now I can grow all summer long, under$300.

See the ac grill behind the fan?

Thats really cool! I just bought a unit and stuffed it in the tent and lost the extra space. Mainly a 4 ft wide by 1ft long square so i wasnt too worried but thats stepping your game up! Looks great and im sure it works even better!

@BigCat420 do you have room on the side or back of your tent for your ac unit? Very easy to put it outside. It does mean cutting a hole in your tent

I do but honestly my tent is already big enough for what i grow as i try to grow less than 4 at a time

I just cram it all to the left side of the tent lol

Nice ac unit. What kind? Where does the exhaust from it go? Window? Does it have a pan to catch waterfrom evaporation?

Im in the same boat. I have a window unit, but i need to swap to a portable wifi one so i can run the exhaust through the floor and my neighbors wont hear it running like last year. Im leaning towards a Toshiba model.

@beachglass the brand is costway. Ordered it from Walmart $268. It has a 6" exhaust hose. It came with a window attachment but in my case will vent into garage.

Thank you. I can vent to basement. I feel for the people who buy this house someday and wonder why there are 4 and 6" holes in floor of bedroom for the 3 tents. Lol.

@beachglass that’s funny about the holes. At my last place, I had a secret grow room built-in the barn behind chicken house. I’m sure the new owners wondered what the hell it was for

My first failed attempt at growing indoors is a hidden spot behind the wall in my bedroom closest. Mom found them and was pissed. Fast forward abput 30 years later, and mom tells me it must run in my blood, because my dad was big on growing qhen he was still around.

@TeNNWisKeY good morning, that’s a pretty cool story lol

I dont know if this will work, but one thing i will be doing when flip to 12/12 is going to a pm to am schedule. This keeping lights off during the day when its harder to keep the shop cool. And have them come on from 5 pm to 5 am. During this time of day the shop doors are closed, and im not pulling in hot vehicles back to back. Doing this along with putting a small ac in the lung section of my grow room will hopefully let me keep my temps in the high 70s this summer. Last summer it was all i could do to keep it below 85, and at times it would be pushing 90

@TeNNWisKeY sounds like you have a similar situation. It’s not feasible for me to cool the entire garage. This is going to work. I’ll post finished pics later . It may be a day or two. I have a lot to do today. Mow the lawn for Easter egg hunt later for grandkids. Happy Easter

Nice not sure if id want to be the one experimenting with cutting a tent but that came out awesome man i like it. It looks like it was made that way

@TeNNWisKeY thats what i do is run lights at night. I run my 12/12 from 1900 to 0700 and my veggie room from 1700 to 1100. Ill run my ac while lights are out to simulate night time and if the veggie room gets too hot, i can turn the exhaust on in the flower room and it dumps into the veg room. Cooling it off.

@Medicineman33 thanks man, I still have to make one alteration. The control panel must be inside the tent because of the thermostat. This is a cheap tent.at first I put it inside and saw it was going to take up 1/4 of the space. I didn’t like it. This is much better. I’ll post finished pics.

My room is where i work, the building by itself would stay well regulated, but during the summer i pull in car after car that is hot from sitting outside. The shop usually jist starts to recover when we finish one. Then the whole process starts over from 8 to around 5 everyday. By doing this the lights will be off all day. Keep me from peaking at them every 30 minutes, and them be waking up for the day right about the time i am done with work. Giving me time for watering and training after work instead of before.

@RPgrower @Fatz1973 @TeNNWisKeY @BigCat420 @beachglass @Medicineman33 @ChittyChittyBangin here’s the finished installation of my ac. Can’t plg it in until later. Manual says to keep upright and let sit for 24 hrs before plugging in. It’s not going to be hot enough to need it this week. The thermostat can adjust from 66 to 86 degrees. Tell me what you think.

It also has a remote control. I think my plants are going to love it!! Happy Easter

Some good ideas. I am currently using the ac for the room the tent is in. My rethink that now…and summer is on the way!
