Do I need/want a tent?

I have a 4’ x 3’ closet I’m growing in. Have the lights (260w HLG) a small heater, and small humidifier in there now.

Do I need a tent? What benefits would it bring?

Thanks.

No tent needed. I grew in a closet for 2 years with great success. Only thing I would check for is light leaks :love_you_gesture:

@OGIncognito do you think some sort of cheap reflective insulation or other material is helpful or not needed in a closet application like that?

Flat white paint has been shown to be as effective as reflective materials such as mylar.

White paint has almost the same reflectively as the Mylar films so you should be fine

I covered my closet walls and inside of the door with reflective insulation board but white paint will work as equally well. It was easier for me to use the insulation sheets versus hanging and painting drywall…I took the easy and lazy way on the DIY closet :joy::love_you_gesture:

How is your airflow? For Photos how do you manage the airflow and control the dark period / light leaks; or is this for autos?

I’ve only got autos growing now.

May try photo outdoors come spring

There is space under the door.

Do i need to put a fan in there? Temperature is between 68-75 degrees, humidity is at 30-40%

Good to know ty!!

It would help circulate the stale air. The 40% is at the low end for the flowering stage. I try and maintain 65% minimum for seedlings, 50-60% in veg and 45-55% during flower :love_you_gesture:

Maybe you can tack up a piece of rubber or some other device to glide closed but block the gap.

I believe most have a circulating fan for air movement and a fan to bring fresh air into or out of the grow space. Flowering plants can produce a strong smell; will that be a problem?

And yes, fan for sure. You could consider putting a vent in the door too.

Smell isn’t an issue. It’s in the basement.

I’m just concerned with good production

Is that with the light on the light will increase the temperature

I use a pool noodle cut to size or black pipe insulation and slide it under the door.

You want multiple fans blowing on the plants, oscillating is better. You want to harden your plants branches and stems to create strong plants that can hold up the buds in flower.

This is critical. It’s the biggest struggle I have in my grows.

I grew in a closet for years, and had good success, BUT, I started using a tent, and it’s way way better. With the closet, I had to keep the door open with lights on, and never got it completely light free (although it never caused me a problem), with the tent, it remains sealed at all times, and I can control the environment way better. IMO, the tent is far superior for growing. Since this photo, I’ve improved my exhaust hanging method.

I build a 30 x 72" closet specifically to grow in. The lights should look familiar

A fan can be seen by Inline, on the end wall is another fan. I also have a fan by the intake.
