Hi growers
I bought ILGM Blue Dream auto seeds a while back. I have a set of plants (set A) just finishing up, and a set I planted (set B) timed to begin flowering just as Set A is finishing up. Both sets are from the same Blue Dream seed order 10-pack. They are both growing really well.
Thing is, the leaves on Set A are thin and there are seven lobes, whereas Set B has wide leaves and there are five lobes. Am I looking at two different strains here? Which one is Blue Dream? Are either of them Blue Dream? I don’t know, and I don’t have a genetics lab to find out. Kinda shakes my faith, Maaaaan!
This question comes up lot and best way to explain it is like kids in the family. Some look like Mom, some Dad and some of both. I’ve rarely grown the same strain from the same batch that resembled each…other than green ![]()
Physical attributes are a very poor indicator of the strain.
@OGIncognito has made a very good point. At best, individual strain seeds could be considered as cousins. Do you look like your cousins?
better said and visual ![]()
@OGIncognito and @MidwestGuy have you covered on this. The only thing worth adding is that the variations within a given strain are exactly why some folks “pheno hunt” to find a plant that they would like to clone or propagate through pollination.
Well said Brother Merlin and on that pheno hunt myself ![]()
I’ve maintained plants via cloning that had good characteristics as well.
I’ll add that there is nothing magical about the strains. The only real difference between the strains is the terpine profile and cannabinoid content. There are some other characteristics such as coloration at maturity and other trivial things.
