Did I drown her?

Broke through soil on 21st. Gave her 1 cup water on 23rd eve. Gave another cup tonight 25th. I notice she has curled up - did I drown her…can she be saved?

Girl Scout Cookie Autoflower. FoxFarm Ocean Forest. 5 Gallon pot.

I’ve attached pictures. One to show why I gave one cup. Two to show how she looks today curled and another to show how she was yesterday not as curled.

Youre getting really close. Dont water again for at least a week if not longer. Put a clear dome over her. A cut in half pop bottle, a clear cup, something to create a mini biosphere which will create the correct humidity needed. Seedlings gain hydration through their leaves. Their roots have not developed yet. Once they do, you don’t want to water by the base/stalk. You want the roots to search for water thus encouraging root development. Stay at a minimum of two inches away and water in a circle around her. Let the soil dry completely out. You want a drench to drought watering technique. Mist the inside of your dome only and remove for a few minutes a day. Hope this helps and is not too late. Happy growing. :v:

This is going to end up hurting you possibly. Do you have any more soil?

Also you CANNOT rely on a watering “schedule” you have to cater to each plant individually. I have plants thatll drink a gallon in a day and i have some thatll drink a gallon in a week…

Yes I now have more soil. I put her in water and sprouted…then put soil in pot and realized not enough so ordered more - my thought was after perhaps a week or so when a bigger stalk add more - I couldn’t add more at beginning because thought bag I had was enough and she needed to be planted - so yes I have two more bags - thought to add a top later in perhaps a week when bigger…no?

I agree from what I have read - I emailed the IGLM team and they said don’t rely on that - instead once has more leaves do water until run off…so I am figuring to do that - but I thought I could rely on that while she is seedling.

Ok…I have a dome over her and will ignore her for at least 4 days and then check on her…I guess if she grows and looks healthy she is ok and if not she is a gonner? I will water away from the stalk.

Should I just start again?

Nah man, just dome her, make sure your light is about 18 inches away and keep your temps around 80°F. Shes not dead till shes dead dammit dead… i woukdnt water at all for at least a week, juat mist the dome twice a day or whenever the cup is dry

Thanks Buddy!

I’d love to grow two but my space is so bloody small lol and the first one i did grew big! I am going to stagger - so if she survives I will start another around week 4.

I just wish there was a guide that was super simple lol but alas…

I will do the weight test - I got used to that. It scared me to do water when she has 4 or so leaves as run off…seems like a lot of water…so many options out there - this guide misguided me lol

Keep in mind, over watering is the practice of watering too often NOT the amount given at one time. :+1:

There is and it talks back to you…even better. This forum…my favorite place to be.

Seedlings require very little water. I have trouble with this part of growing myself. Mainly you are better off underwatering than overwaterering. You have to be in tune with your plants, but a little water every other day. Only after they get a few sets of leaves. Maybe 6 to 8 inches tall. Keep a good eye on them and figure out a regular schedule. And ask questions on this forum.

When they’re that small I only give the a few tablespoons of water every few days and never directly on the stem. I use a clear solo cup as a dome for the first few days and mist the inside of the cup and water around the outside of the cup. If the soil is too moist the humidity inside the dome can get too high. This needs to be checked daily. Some people use domes until the leaves touch the sides. I only use them for sprouting and maybe a week after if at all.

I wouldn’t put a dome over her. Just don’t water for a while. If you over watered and dome the yes you will saturate her and not give her time to recover. just keep your humidity between 65 to 70. I’m sure I’m not the only one the feels that once she’s out the soil so long as the atmosphere is controlled you don’t need to cover a seedling. All these were putin the soil as popped seedling on Tuesday. Kept them covered till Thursday when they were all out. Not they are in a 65-70% tent with fans uncovered.

Please don’t put a dome over your plants and ignore her. She needs fresh air. No dome just lightly mist.

The issue that most people confuse is they read somewhere that the medium has to be watered in for new plants. Remember this rule, this is only true when TRANSPLANTING yes I put it in caps so you can remember! With seedlings build your medium, only lightly spray to top before you put the seed in. Next my pratice is follow tge same steps as a transplant. Since i grow organic I never trust my medium, so I take my solo cup and make an make my hole and add my starter mix. Simply coco, perlite, and earthworm casting. I make sure that is wet enough. Then I plant my seed there and cover. Once they sprout they get 1-2 days with a dome. After that uncovered in a controlled environment and I instantly start dropping the humidity by 5% a day until I reach 60% Check early in the morning and mist as needed. First watering is within 5 days. A half a cup othside tge ring as some stated earlier as they are righ the roots will chase the moisture and tge nutrients. If you keep the dome on too long the roots hang in that area. I plant a lot of fruit trees and this is the method used to get roots established quickly and to encourage them to grow outwards.

Ok dome is off.

Question. You have the black pots pretty close together. I’d like to do two but couldn’t see having them that close together as when bigger will interfere with each other. Do you not find they get in each others way?

You can see that I did not fully fill soil as I mis judged that one bag would be enough. It was not. I now have two more bags. I was going to add more soil once she was substantial. How would you address that? She had to be potted so I had not choice. It was Ruth that or two more days in water and chance rot

Awesome.

I really went wrong because I used the chart and did one cup. Twice. Dome is off. I will watch her. Mist. Do I mist until top of water moist? Do I mist only outside if that circle. Do I mist her herself? I would imagine mist her say ten sprays which lands in and around her

Currently they are in my veg tent. I have a 4x4x8 for flower. So they will be in there in a few weeks. Flower tent is full. As for the soil issue, it’s not too big of a problem. I also didn’t account for the soil settlement when I first started growing, you live and learn. You have a good plan. Wait for the roots to establish then decide if you need more. A wise mand said you can grow in any size pot so a 5 gal pot with 3 gallons of soil is still good. But you may get lucky/unlucky and she may get leggy, this will help, all you do is just gently add soil. But get that soil from inside, then add your new soil along tge outskirts as you don’t want to run the risk of too much nutrition directly on the stem and roots. As she grows pile it on. But you are good aside from the over watering. Remember if your light doesn’t move you can always prop your plant higher. Full grow tent.
