HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP (seedlings keep dying)

I need help. Badly. I’ve killed 6 seedlings already and wasted a ton of money. The ONE seedling I have left is going like all its friends.

  1. it sprouts just fine.
  2. day two or three. The first leaves that show first start to FOLD UPWARDS (?!?)
  3. day 3+ the seedling falls over and the stem deflates.

what the hell am I doing wrong? The first time I thought too much water. The second time I did not water as much and the same thing happened.

Are you watering these or giving nutrients?

I am not giving them nutrients and I am only watering when the soil on top starts to dry (soil on bottom is damp still at this point) about 1-2 days between watering and only giving them about a cup of water now (before it was more but they still died). Also using humidity domes and spraying them once a day (did not do this the first time either)

ALSO I have tried 4 strains (got a few free seeds with my purchase) and they ALL are doing the same thing and dying after a few days to a week

Thats good, also dont water them yet because the roots are not fully formed enough yet. Instead put a clear solo cup over them so they still get light, but mist the inside of the cup raising the humidity and they will take in the moisture through the leaves. You will need to do it this way till more leaves are grown as well as the roots finish developeing enough. This will help you

Sounds like damping off.
A cup of water is way way too much.
I tested a seedling and did not water for 3 full weeks and it didn’t die.

HOLY crap. well that explains a LOT. I just planted 2 more and watered the initial media until runoff to get it wet. Do you think this is too much water? (because COCO is so dry :frowning: )

I ran out of replies!!!

I do notice that the crappy seeds that I planted from a bag a while ago (all males) had NO problem growing :frowning:

The genetics of cannabis has changed since i was younger and they have become specifically weak in this stage of developement and is a big problem for alot of growers at first

Yep
I dampen the soil and then squeeze out as much as I can.
You can cover the sprout with a clear solo cup for a few days and not water at all.
Afterwards if the soil is dry below an inch or so give it a little water a couple inches away from the stem. If its in a solo cup you can pick up the cup and feel how light/heavy it is and tell if its dry.

Id let it dry now and just mist around plant a little to keep up with humidity cause they need alot right now. When you mist soul try not to get plants wet or they will burn under the lights with drops on them they are still really tender, much unlike the “weeds” of yesteryear

Agree 100%
Stronger in THC but weaker especially as a sprout.
And more picky about pH levels.

In the meantime here’s a good read.

I prepare my coco coir bricks then plant my seedling and only mist them with a spray bottle and allow the roots to develop before I start watering.

Also what is your light set to amd hiw far away? It looks like a lot of light for the seedling.

How far away is your light? And, what kind of light is it exactly?
When leafs point upward like that, it’s a good sign that it’s too close or too hot. They are folding up to protect her leafs from burning up. Just my thoughts for the day. Good luck and keep’em growin! :+1:t2::v::sunglasses:

My first thought as well (fungus/mold). I’m a spritzer myself (spray with water) and have had 100% seedling success. The seedlings will drink from the pores on there leaves as the roots have not developed enough yet.

Classic damping off.
Those look like cucumbers.

YIKES! THE SPAM FILTER ON THIS IS INSANE (had to wait 22 hours to get another post in :frowning: )

You guys have been great! How can I avoid damping off? besides withholding water from the plant (or only spraying)

For those that mentioned it… I used sterilized coco so could there still be a fungus or mold issue?

sadly… I think tomorrow I will come in and this baby will be keeled over and dead just like all the others

It just sucks because these seeds are getting expensive :frowning:

Also included a photo of my grow light distance for those who asked.

Ok, I was wrong, you do not have a damping off issue. You have a light distance issue. The reason your leaves are saluting and your seedling is falling over is because it is stretching for the light. Bring that light down to about 6" above those ladies.

If it were me, I would give them a couple of days and see how they respond.
Are all of your seeds doing this? If so, how long do they last before you call it quits? :v::sunglasses:
