Many of us make tinctures using grain alcohol extractions, and this alcohol is a large expense when using a Magical Butter 2 machine and filling toward the top line with 28 g of flower. I can get two uses out of a 1.75 bottle if I don’t go quite to the top line.
In SC, a 1.75 L bottle of Gem Clear is $31.25 inc sales tax. Everclear is even more due to brand name awareness, but I cant see paying more for this particular use.
I’m just wondering what other folks are paying for this same product. $31.25 for a 1.75L bottle seems high to me, so I’m asking what others pay in their particular area.
$40 for 1.75 of everclear. That’s the only one I see regularly. I know some members have ordered the food grade ethanol from Amazon, but dont remember price sorry.
$19.99 here. I’ve been curious to maybe try something that doesn’t taste like lighter fluid. Lol perhaps a 99 bananas or something that the tincture wouldn’t taste so bad. Higher proof better extraction per mb2 website.
Hyvee might be one to look for here as well. I make reductions, so it all evaporates off anyway. With all these new businesses making CBD oils via alcohol extractions, seems there may be an industrial packaged grain alcohol product that doesn’t have to be sold at package/liquor stores. My guess is the state and federal taxes in package stores drives price variables between states.
From time to time there’s a bit of Tennessee moonshine that floats around as I have some close friends whose family lives there. Brings it to us at holidays and my next extract I’m going to use it. Taste about the same as grain alcohol
The problem is if it’s potable then it’s taxed. Add something to make it toxic and it’s an industrial chemical. Large distillation facilities use a continuous still and only shut it down once or twice a year for maintenance. It just sits there and pukes out methanol, ethanol, isopropanol etc. It even does fractional distillation.
I can’t get everclear where I live but I found a guy that sells me moonshine 20 bucks a quart . I have considered getting a still and redistilling cheep vodca or something
