Coco coir and my practice

Hey growmies, I’m going to be using coco coir as a practice run for my next grow. I’m only growing in 1 gallon pots and I will be trying this grow outdoors just for shits and giggles. I wanna see how it’ll go. I did learn about rinsing the coco, buffering it, etc. I do need a bit of help with the feeding regimen if anyone has experience with that!

I might give the Bergman’s nutes that I purchased a try, and I will be topping (maybe both autos) different strains, to just give it a go and see how it works out. Let me know if you guys have tips / tricks for coco and feeding/watering.

Buffering coco all depends on the coco you are purchasing if its Canna coco brand or GrowIT coco brand it conea pre washed and buffered any other coco brand id highly recommend rinsing and buffering also with coco you HAVE to feed/water every day some times you can go a day without bit with coco its recommended you feed daily so be prepared i gave up on coco solely due to having to feed every day its relentless lol ohh and sense you want to do this in 1 gallon pots which is more than doable your going to have to water/feed probably 3x to 5x a day sense your pots will be so small id also recommend going to Coco for cannabis website and read as much as possible you can learn ALOT from that fourm

Thanks! Do you think I would be able to use the bergmans nutes for the feed? I also have cal mag / jacks 3-2-1.

These are four 2-gallon pots filled with coco & perlitel They are clones pruned down to 3 or 4 stems.

They take 9 - 12 liters of Jack’s every day. This is on day 57 since flipping.

I did a 6 purple haze clones in coco in 1 1/2 gallon tall fabric pots. First time using Jack’s. They were pruned down to a single stem

They turned out nice and it was a blast

I reuse old fabric pots outside and some with coco.
I find they do dry out faster than indoors. Also the plant will root right through the bottom if set on the ground. Its not a bad thing, in fact the plants do well.

Ive been feeding every other day and my plants are about 2 months old. Eventually ill need to water daily but i mixed my coco with earthworm castings so it holds a bit more moisture. Also running 1 gal fabric containers

I’m gonna mix with a bit of FFOF I have left over

Hey @LiesGrows what ph / ppm does my buffering solution need to be at? A lot of people are using GH cal mag instead of botanicare so I can’t find an answer.

Ppm not to sure of if it even maters but ph id stick with 5.8 to 6.0

Hey would you mind actually giving me your feeding schedule? What are you feeding?

I wouldn’t mix coco with soil. It sort of destroys the purpose of coco - to be a neutral medium that allows you to control what goes in.

I run Jacks and coco - no perlite or any other added frou frou. Water once every 2 days for the hand-watering gals, everyone else is in autopots.

For what it’s worth, I just mix up a normal batch of Jacks, then add CalMag at the rate suggested by my bottle (I think the stuff I use now is 5mL per gal, but it varies from whichever brand I find cheap - they’re essentially all the same). Rehydrate and soak the coco in that solution. PPMs are somewhere around 900-1000. Idk with certainty.

Good luck @Sammys with the coco grow. There is a whole bunch of knowledge on here about growing in coco and what nutes are best/what works for them.

If you have an extra bean to experiment with, no better way to learn.

Ive been using jacks 321 part a and b and silica mixed in this order
6-10 ml silica
3.6 grams per gallon part a x5= 18 grams
1.1 grams per gallon epsom salt x5= 5.5 grams i just feed 6 grams to make it easy
2.4 grams per gallon part b x5= 12 grams
Ive also been using 6-8 oz recharge 1x per week after watering to runoff around the stalk
But i have found this chart to be useful

You want nutrients you can get cheap as you’ll be feeding pretty often growing outdoors with small pots of coco.

@dbrn32 i believe she is gonna use jacks 321 for nutes but a mix of FFOF and rehydrated coco bricks for the grow medium. I figured that in itself would be an issue if your not closely watching runoff ppm. But like mentioned above that is something to take into account. Right now im feeding my 17 ladies on 1 gallons 5 gallons of nutrient water every other day and wont be long before its daily or even up to 2x a day

I wouldn’t mix coco and ff, go one or the other. If you want to cut ff use something like perlite.

I set my dad up with a plant in coco couple years ago that he grew outside. Even in a 5 gallon pot he was feeding 2-3x a day in flower and pot would get so dry the slightest breeze would knock it over.

Yeah I decided to steer away from mixing with ff, just gonna do perlite :love_you_gesture:t2:
