I have been have 30/70 success (30 - good / 70 - failed) on cloning.
I have had great success previously but the last two months have been having little luck.
I use an aerocloner.
pH between 5.6 - 6.2
Solution is RO H2O @ 2 gals
Clear Rez per instructions
Clonex Solution per instructions
Hormex per instructions
I cut the branch, immediately into water, after a few minutes I take it, trim off all leaves, cut on a 45, and dip it into full strength Hormex for about 60 seconds after which I take out, place into Clonex cloning solution, and then place into EZ cloner
Places under 24” T5’s (4 total) about 8-12” above clones.
I have used a humidifier and not. I can’t tell that one way is better than the other. What I have noticed is that the moisture burns out the T5 bulbs.
With the humidifier we reach 85-95% RH and without I hover around 35-40%.
When I didn’t have the humidifier I was getting better results but I added bc all of the sudden my cuttings where drying to a crisp.
I’ve pulled the clones and the bottoms (in solution) are soggy and limp.
Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? If you need more info please let me know.
You don’t want the stems fully submerged. I barely have the stem touching the water with a bubble stone supplying plenty of bubble/oxygen. I try and maintain a temp of 75-82, mist the leaves and an RH of 60-70%. Usually around 7-10 days they have a lot of root growth
I was hit and miss then looked up griffin te hnique and if i cut 25 clones ill easy get 20 to root. Never been happier. I use a clone ing and another similar to yours.
looks like you’re taking too much leaf off. i would leave some more. i don’t have any experience with those cloner machines but others have great success. 85 is kinda warm and 40% is kinda dry for clones.
good luck. clones can be frustrating but you’ll get your method down and be pulling 9/10 success rate
Also like yours, recently ive slowed too, i think the common denominator is we’ve turned off the Humidifier, im gonna turn mine back on and see if it helps , thanks
Need a propagation dome my friend to hold that moisture in and away from the light. No need fir humidifier running cuz you only have to control environment inside the dome.
I don’t do but 3-4 clones at a time but i have never lost a single one ever…
Propagation dome ontop of digital controlled heat mat and i stick mine in a rockwool cube thst i soked in clonex solution after dipping it in rooting gel or rooting hormone i use different brands at times…
But dome them some how and keep them warm and forget trying to keep a big tent perfect temp and RH fir cloning
I like to cut my clones a little longer than that . How long are you leaving them in cloner ? Won’t really see much of progress until 14 days should start to see roots poking out.
Are your spray heads clean?
You should check out hellraiser cloning thread. It has helped plenty.
If having trouble finding it. Let me know. I’ll tag you in it
I don’t know alot about this cloning method my freind lots of people use them but I never have.
My rockwool cube method is the only way I’ve ever done it
Are your misting the leaves 8 to 10 times a day for about a week or until you see roots. Rh should be in the 80s. Temp near the same. Dome them. Heat mat helps. And any kind of rooting jel helps. I use earth juice rooting jel and i dust that with great white after.
Get something like a dome or clear tote or tub to set on top of your cloner to keep the humidity up that by itself should help your cuttings take root your rh is to low you need to be 80% or higher impo the leafs uptake moisture within the air so they stay alive ling enough to pop new roots also like stated above make sure your water lvl is not to high and make sure the cuttings arent to far down but rite above the water line like a inch or two also tjeres no need to use multiple rooting hormones 1 will do just fine
I’ve converted the ones I had in the aero to rockwool and a dome so I could clean the aero. It was much dirtier than I anticipated so i am hoping this will fix my problem. I’ll probably take some more clones tonight and hope for the best.
The ones in the dome I am misting about 4-6x a day so hopefully they will grab some roots and we will be off to the races.
I used to have no issues with my aero so let’s hope this does the trick on that end.
