My plants are almost ready to harvest. ( New grower here). I am looking to cut and hang them in a week or two. I am going to Florida in two weeks (from Oregon to Florida) for two weeks. Question is, if I hang them in a week or so, will they be too dry when I get back.? If not cool, if so, what can I do?
If you can dry them at 60 degrees and 60% humidity it can take a couple weeks. But leaving plants to dry without being there to tend to them can be a recipe for disaster. Id be more concerned about coming home to moldy weed.
You can chop it, wet trim it, then put it in a freezer until you get back.
Last dry I did I was shooting for 60F /60%humidity, real life 55F to 60F and 55% to 62% humidity. My dry went longer than 2 weeks. Definitely do the teeth crunch test on the branches to know when its done. I went a little long because I was only relying on fingers and ears and I couldnt feel or hear when they were done. I think when I got it in the grove bags it was a little low 50% to 57% humidity depending on the bag. I had to rehydrate a tiny bit with a wet paper towel. I was shooting for 60% to 62% humidity to jar it.
I heard someone say in a video we all shoot for whatever parameters we shoot for life, time, schedules, weather gets in the way sometimes and causes some challenges. I suppose its kinda like nature outside too. Things get a little off. We learn from what we see and do the best we can. I wont forget what cal mag deficiency or nitrogen toxicity looks like for future grows. Enjoy the grow. I was lucky with temps and humidity everything was real stable on my first run. This run its been super humid and hot outside. I just ordered a portable ac for the dry tent room in the basement. Im about to chop as well. The basement is 78F. And humidity is like 80% outside. Tough to correct this stuff sometimes.
Then what?
Hang and dry as usual?
Oven dry, decarb, and weed trim bin utilized for Kief collecting?
Yes hang and dry as usual. You can also dry it in the freezer but that takes weeks and needs to be in open containers.
