Breeding Process

Can anyone help me understand the process of breeding your own strain? The only thing Ive ever really heard is you need a male and female of 2 different strains and you can put ziplock bags on the male plants to collect the pollen then put those bags on the female plants to pollinate them.

Are you looking for regular seeds? Process you noted would work. You could also put both plants into same space and let it happen naturally.

Not at the moment. I planned on getting maybe 20 of each strain of choice though so that I can get different phenotypes but I feel like I need to do some research because I want to create a strain that hasnt been made lol and I will probably just let happen the natural way

I meant breeding towards regular seeds or feminized? If you want feminized seeds the path is rather specific. If you want to end up with regular seeds then you should start with regular seeds.

How would I go about breeding femenized seeds?

Colloidal silver or silver thiosulfate to get female plants ti create pollen. Then use the pollen to pollinate a different female plant.

If you’re truly looking at working with a strain to fine tune it to your liking, regular seeds would probably be the preferred method.

Ok thank you

DB definitely covered ya solid. If you want to get real about it. Pheno hunting is the first step… well picking ur parents is first… but pheno chasing is super underrated. Not all seeds are created equal.

I prefer the regular au natural approach myself. Something about the silver tickles the wrong bone… good luck regardless!

Do u mind me asking… what are u chasing? Heady high? Or body stone? Got a terp profile youve enjoyed? Or one you’d like to lay the path too? Big yields or just knock ur socks off smoke?

Lets talk breeding! :joy:

@ThcinKC is ALL IN on breeding atm. It maybe alot to comb thru… but its a GREAT place to start. Dude has some amazing grow skills and sick strains cooking.

Ive made a few seeds. More akin to a pollen chucker then a full blown breeder, but i get a few nuances. Ask away my friend. Breeding is my True passion to growing reefer honestly.

Well I’m here talkin about breeding how do u breed auto flowers that’s where I’m stuck u can help both of us

the whole breeding thing takes a LOT of pheno hunting and crossing. When you start with seed, no 2 plants are likely gonna be the same, so to do it right you meed lots of plants. I mean LOTS of plants. Then clones are made of each example that meet your criteria, keeping in mind that a plant that grows great may not smoke great. The clones are numbered to represent each example. Records are kept. Then you shortlist 4 or 5 of the finest examples. Tgen we need to hunt for a suitable male… often overlooked! The male is super important. The shortlisting process is similar. Prepare for a long process, because then after all the searching and crossing is done then we begin stabilizing the genetics. Seriously, making a strain is a big process.

To breed autos you need to cross them with ruderal cannabis strains. There are some for sale at RSC. The strains should have very short veg, most of these are high altitude , northern strains that come from places like Russia. They begin flowering super fast, like weeks after they break ground because the season is stupid short. Many of these feral cannabis plants are not drug strains, simply breeding material.

I actually just made a few auto seeds… using an auto female and a regular male. The two seeds ive dropped are flowering @ 18+ hours. I plan on crossing these two for hopefully more auto seeds. Then ill mass drop and pheno chase for more.

But you are correct. To be a proper thorough breeder. It takes years of work and dedication

nice work! Purple… you got lucky, sometimes that gene doesnt show, even if the breeder crosses a feral plant with a drug strain. Are all of the seed blooming early? How many have you popped?

Im pretty sure they wont all do it. Heck the female just started showing pistils. If she keep flowering ill be one happy camper. Unless the weed SUCKS! The male was cbd heavy though. And who doesnt like Zhittlez.

If nothing else… the gummi bear potential is off the charts
