thinking of doing this watering system with my outside plants this year has anyone have any info?
Being an outdoor grower anything is better then lugging 8 gallons of water to my spot every other day.
I’m glad you opened this topic. I’ve looked at that but it’s not in this years Grow budget. Anything that saves your back is a PLUS
I did an entire gravity fed drip irrigation using these carrots and a 5 gallon bucket. I can tag you in it if you would like.
Doesn’t @MattyBear use one like this?
Thats the worst! I try to be close to creeks and i hide 5gal buckets randomly near the creek so i can get in out of the spots later in season with as much stealth and speed as possible.
I have them and I love them but I’ve used mine for indoor when I go out of town always come back to everything still alive I think they would work great outdoors
I think I bookmarked it but please tag me over to it just in case please
looks like alot of positve feedback , im sold on it , thanks everybody .
Oh I f’n love mine. Saves the back and shoulders
Anyone using this, how many of the stakes are needed in a 7 gal cloth pot, just 1? @Hogmaster
I’m assuming one can just use a normal 5 gallon plastic bucket… or larger.
Any tips on setup or is it pretty straight forward?
@sutton used it, had issues
Yeah I had a hard time dialling it in and the system was prone to runaway, flooded and killed a couple plants. I used the blumat system
Hmmm, I’m leaving in 2 weeks and I thought the blumat was the answer.
Yeah it may work for u but I did have my problems with it that’s forsure. When they were working it worked good but like anything there’s a chance it fails
I use it and like it but as the threads here say, it can flood. User error generally and the big thing to watch for is air in the lines. Add a bleeder line and a valve for it at the midpoint of your loop. Use it every time you mess with it, disconnect etc…I have everything up a few inches on rollers anyway so if my five gal res goes even if full its a mess and a pain but not a killer event. The plants just get an unscheduled watering or flush I suppose. You want anything with power, cords etc… up anyway but especially with these. With that said, once dialed in I have had great success with these things. You will need or want some upgrades from the kit. Upgrade the line, get extra… T connectors and quick connect valves at a minimum. Extra Drippers are nice also. Per my earlier post if you can hand water its better but from a pragmatic perspective this system can be pretty handy in my opinion.
PS You can also set it up to stage a drop of water if you are worried it will flood. You will need someone to open the valves on the res for a predetermined period and then close them again. They don’t need access to anything except the res. and you should predetermine that amount of time that gives them the drink you need. On my first few trips that was my solution. Now I set them and go.
Sorry for the run on. Just reread your original question @Drinkslinger. Get one carrot per bag, then get drippers to extend a loop around the plant if you want more. I purchased multiple carrots for each which was a bad idea. You calibrate at the carrot and adding complexity was a bad plan. The size carrot is up to you. I use five gallon bags and the standard size carrots. Get a meter also if you can.
After reading reviews and getting input, it seems to be a decent solution for vacationers, but it’s a bit complicated and has a little too much room for error.
I’m only gone for a week once a year.
I went with the lo tech solution. 24 of these.

I’ll report back after vacation. Hopefully with good results.
Good plan @Drinkslinger. If you get back and decide you want to upgrade to the full blown kit reach out. I’m just back from a few days away and checking find they are dialed in and exactly where I want them. They took just enough water while I was gone and then started to dry out again. Its pretty simple believe me, if I can do it its very much so. On the other hand I have time to fool with them and like the data I can get out of the meters as I’m data nerd of sorts. An example below. Enjoy the vaca.
PS all the data doesn’t necessarily improve the result but it keeps me occupied.
