Hey y’all. Through my second grow. Still learning in a lot. It’s definitely interesting.
For my next grow, I want to try and “automate” some of my watering. I’m not looking for a powered system. More if something that will take the overwatering aspect out of my hands. I know people water by weight, but I can’t seem to get it. Also, another huge thing, we travel a lot. Long weekends, maybe a week here or there. I had someone come over and water in the interim, but they screwed it up. I’m sure I just didn’t have the directions right. So I want to alleviate some of that for the future. So here is what I have, and my thoughts. I’d love some opinions.
I’ve done some reading on Octopot and blumat. If I went Octopot, I would get (2) 6 gallon containers. Blumat I would do 1 carrot in each fabric pot. I currently use FF nutes, but looking at switching to Jacks 321 based on recommendations here. Would those work ok with either system? Does anyone have opinions on these two systems specifically?
Bonus points: I plan on starting my first outdoor grow with a couple of plants this year. I would consider one of these systems outdoors as well if you recommend it.
If you’re gone for up to a week, you really may want to see about an automated system. That’s quite a while even for young plants in veg. A handy way to determine wet/dry weight is to fill a pot with your medium while it’s dry and check that. Then soak it and see how that feels.
Fabric pots are pretty easy to use the weight method with. I grew an auto outside in a 7 gallon ceramic last year and using the weight was pointless lol
The 1st set up I ordered were twin pots and 2.2 and 3 gallon fabric pots work perfectly, the last ones I purchased were 3.9 and I cut them down for a 3 gallon bag. I grow only in 3 gallon fabric pots. I would go with the 6.6 knowing the 3.9 is too small
