I’ve been trying the germination of seeds in water method but after 24 hours a bunch of seeds pop, but I do not get tails. What do I do next?
I read that I should only soak my seeds for 24 hours and I also l tried the putting it in paper towel after 24 hours.
Do I add fertilizer to get them to have bigger tails, Is my cabinet too cold?
I use a shallow glass bowl with a folded wet paper towel on the bottom of the seeds and one on the top of the seeds.
Ok ur doin things right but this is wat i do i soak my seeds in warm water for two to three days i put them in a warm spot in the dark and after they have cracked and have tails i put them on to paper towel i get a plastic plate i put the paper towel on the plate then i tip the seeds on the paper towel i cover the seeds with the paper towel and then i cover it with another plastic plate and i put that in a dark warm place for two to three days and after that i plant into solo cups
Thanks again! I thought that keeping it in water for more than 24 hours would drown the seeds?!? When the seeds pop, and I put it in the paper towel should there still be a little bit of water over the seeds? Do I keep it in a warm area? Maybe under a light but covered with a washcloth or bath towel? Maybe I’m just over thinking it!
My next batch of seeds I’ll try your suggestion and see how it goes.
Knf method says if you sprout using nutrients you give your seedling the ability to maximize its potential.
I haven’t popped seeds in a while but I was messing with Korean natural farming for a bit since I read about it a few years ago @Aussie_autos read up! Right up your alley btw.
Warm dark area. 24 hour soak then transfer to wet paper towel in ziplock bag to retain moisture. The soak is to allow the shell to soften up and let the tap root spring out
Have had total success with this method…
I use medicine cups, like the ones that come with Robitussin.
Fill it up with distilled water, add 3 or 4 drops of peroxide, drop your seed and put it in a dark, warm place.
When it cracks, or after 18hrs, whichever is first, move it to a paper towel on a plate.
Fold paper towel once, dump the water on it that it was soaking in. Back to the dark, warm place, and keep paper towel moist.
Another 18 hrs, or when the tail is about 1/4" long, whichever is first, into the dirt it goes.
If the seed opens, more likely than not, it has begun germination. Some go straight to dirt, some skip the paper towel. For me, I like to have them in the dirt in no more than 36hours. Hope this helps. Good luck and happy growing!
Largest failure factor seems to be temperature. This is why we recomind a seed heat. Mat with a temp controller, set it to 26c and fold it overtop of the container or Ziplock you babr your seeds in after the 24hr soak.
A nice WARM, dark and damp place will produce much better germinating results.
Soaking in a 1 to 3 ratio of hydrogen peroxide to wster also helps soften the shell.
