So I harvested my BK today. 10 oz wet so not too shabby for my first grow. Thank you to everybody that helped me through this first time. I truly appreciate it. Now on to drying and curing. Any suggestions?
Happy birthday!
Thanks! 41 today, but I don’t feel a day over 38.
I’d hang dry in a cold, dark place til the buds don’t feel so wet (4-5 days depending on humidity) then chop buds into manageable sizes and place in an air-tight container with a hygrometer. See what the hygrometer reads after 12 hours or so, if over 70RH, leave container open for a few hours and then close up and try again in another 12 hours. Once the RH is below 68 then just open for 15 minuted or so daily to let the RH drop slowly. Once near 62RH, then just 2-3 minuted a day. Once it stabilizes around 58-62RH then the buds are good to seal up in grove bags or mason jars, if using mason jars you’ll want to do a quick burp ( just open jar for a minute or so) on the jars for another week for some gas exchange but make it quick so they don’t dry much more.
Nice buds and Happy Birthday!
Thanks! So the grove bags are more for long term storage? I thought they were for curing? Also, do you use the boveda packs or no?
The grove bags can be used for curing and long term storage, though for long term storage I would heat seal them rather than relying on the ziploc. I don’t use boveda for curing or storage, only for jars I leave out for family and friends that get opened daily.
Okay. I’m also assuming that the whole time doing the air tight container and grove bags it is to be in darkness?
Dark is best but just keep out of sunlight and it’ll be fine.
I have a quick question about drying. Is a little bit of room light going to screw me during drying? How else can I check the dryness?
Some room light is OK, just keep out of direct sunlight. I use one of my grow tents to dry in.
That is the million dollar question and hard to get right without some experience.
I just pinch test a smaller bud, if too wet to break up and smoke then give it another day and try again. Once the smaller buds are dry enough then time to place all the buds in a container with a hygrometer and let the inner moisture sweat out for 12-24 hours and see what the RH is, open container to let out some moisture daily til they get to the sweet spot of 58-62RH.
Some growers are using moisture content meters to test the buds dryness as can be seen in the grove bag thread:
Thank you so much!
Also, these things smell like major hay. Is that going to subside?
Yeah that smell will go away with drying and curing.
I’ve never been on the production side of things. All my buds look fire but have that hay smell.
Actually I had only harvested the canopy the first time. I finished up last night with 15 oz wet! So that will probably be about 4.5 oz dry. I am not upset about that at all.
Is my GSC auto ready to harvest?

With out seeing trichomes. All the pistils are brown. Looks ready to me.
It’s hard for me to tell by trichomes. They mostly look cloudy, but there are some amber as well.
I’m good with cloudy too.
I would say yes i don’t see a single white pistol, throw them in the dark
