Age old question over or under watering

Two out of my plants look awful I just started doing a three day watering this week they got watered yesterday no run off but still got a good coverage of the soil to me they look over watered but then again I’m very new at this but my soil isn’t even wet anymore at least the top two inches however I didn’t turn my AC on in the room and the room reached about 85-88f but only for an hour or so.

How often do you water? Overwatering is not about how much you give it at one time, but is how often you give water. Best practice is a wet dry cycle…meaning water thoroughly and then let the soil get dry (when the pot is light) and then water again.

Unless you are using coco…they need to stay wet

If under watered the pot will feel super lightweight.

The best “hack” to perfect watering habits is to lift the pot daily and water when it’s very lightweight.

We can’t see the water in the pots and the top layers can be dry while the middle and bottom are still very saturated.
If you watered yesterday then it’s probably not under watered, but it’s easy to tell, lift the pot today and get a feel for how heavy it is, if it’s got any weight to it tjen theres still water in it, give it a lift again tomorrow and see if you can’t tell a difference.
Once you try it and see the difference in a fresh watered pot and a dry pot, it will all make sense and be easy to tell when to water.

Hard to say, but looking droopy. When mine were under watered they were that way. They look nice and healthy. Do they perk up after watering?

You can’t really over water a plant this size in a single watering. The problem with too much water is that it restricts oxygen from roots. Seeing plant react to roots being soaked is pretty normal, but in a healthy setting the roots will absorb the water and plant will process long before any issues occur. The problems usually come in when pots are kept soaked or plants don’t have the root system to process the amount of water given. Like having a seedling in larger than necessary container that’s kept wet.

At this stage every watering should be to run off based on what we know thus far. 10-20% and then you can A) pH the run off to make sure you got no rootzone issues and B) check how much she is eating by checking ppm’s in the run off.

Last, if it is underwatered and they are drooping, when you water, within an hour or so they Un-droop.

Yeah they needed a lot more water they are looking a hundred times better I should’ve known but I had just watered them so I didn’t want to drown them but if they keep healthy next week I transport to 5gal

Perfect thank you I will note this in the beginning I was hesitant on overwatering but I guess they must gone into full veg cause they have already drank up a good bit of what I gave them but when I transport them to the 5gal fabric hopefully underwatering shouldn’t be an issue again

That’s a good rule of thumb thank you! Didn’t think about that.

Yeah I usually try and base it off the weight but I guess what tripped me up was how soon they reacted like that right after they got watered but was just shy of enough but they are now back on and growing beautifully
