I just wanted to thank everybody for the important and valuable advice about the taster I was not considered. I ordered the tester just now. Thanks
It’s the #1 first item you should invest in as a new grower
Another question for you @Lostgirl I plan on using a mix of 50/50 FFOF and FFHP with 6qts. of perlite thrown in for kicks and giggles. Does this sound about close or do you have different opinions. Since the FFOF tends to run hot I’ve seen different reactions from everyone. It’s said in places to make the mixture in a 50/50 split by carefully mixing, washing, and removing unwanted, and dangerous things that escape quality control at Foxfarm. Ok…thats one way, then another said to give it 50% OF on the bottom with 50% HF on the top half. Both seem logical but the latter was also carrying a warning that the seedling would be shocked when the roots reached the OF because of the difference. Any thoughts or preferred method? Anyone care to chime in. Also I’ve read contradictions in nutrition methods where some believe start after 3-4 weeks at 1/3 recommended strength (FF Trio). Can anyone with experience in FF Trio of nutes that can elaborate. My next attempt is Moonberry Kushrocks and I so desire success. I’ve already failed with attempts trying Wedding Cake and White Widow, both from ILGM. Thanks people. @Lostgirl especially for taking time to respond.
I use 4:1 ratio (soil to perlite) Gives me a nice drainage. I also pre-rinse the perlite as it has so much Dusty particles. This gives you nice clean dust free perlite.
Personally I don’t see the point in using two different soils. Some people do it. OF is hotter HF is milder. I personally just use Happy frog. However, if you feel the need to mix them I would put the Happy frog on the top for the seedlings and the ocean Forest at the bottom protect from burning them up.
Fox farm soil can get a little aggressive from time to time with sticks and rocks. For the most part it just adds more drainage. However on the top layers if you’re planting the seed you want to remove any sticks and mulch to give the seed a fair chance to pop out of the dirt. I always clean my soil at the top. I’ve had a few seedlings die getting caught underneath a piece of mulch.
Both OF & HF soils have precharged nutrients in their soils. Both feeding your plants without additional nutrients added for at least 3-4 weeks by watering only. Normally your roots will be established well enough by the end of week 3 to start watering to runoff so you can monitor the pH and PPM of the soil. I start feeding nutrients when the soil runs off somewhere around 1,000 ppms (+/- 125)
Unfortunately I don’t use Fox farm nutrients. It’s a very utilized nutrient on this forum so I’m sure someone will chime in on this to assist you.
This normally happens when jumping in with both feet and not even knowing or understanding the basic knowledge. I see it everyday. Reading and watching videos on the basics are priceless. Without a common knowledge it usually ends up in disaster.
I wish you the best of luck!
