Hello, I have had a couple of grows under my belt with HPS bulb, I recently switched to LED. The light is a HYPHOTONFLUX HPF4000 480W. I have 4 strains growing currently, all are 7 days old. I have never seen this with HPS, but all plants by day 6 after sprout all had 3 sets of leaves with the nodes seeming to stack on top of each other. The width seems normal but all are 1.5" tall. Could this be overwatering? I was following my water schedule that I did with my HPS so…I don’t see any signs of deficiency, dropping, spots or color symptoms…? On one hand these plants are ahead of schedule but have just not gotten any taller. . I used Ocean Forest with Coco loco, in 10 gallon felt pots. I appreciate any help.
What setting do u have ur led grow light on if its a dimmable light
Yes, the light is dimmable. I was 24" above plants per recommended by the manufacturer, I dimmed the light to 50% for the first 4 days and at 100% for the last 2 days. I raised the light hoping the plants would stretch but it seemed to have little effect.
Aha ok hopefully one of the other members has a idea about this
Thank you Aussie, I am truly baffled on this one… I’m used to deficiencies having symptoms to give me clues…
Ur welcome anytime
Any pics?
Welcome to the community. Pictures would help a lot.
Welcome to the community
Pics would be best but based on what you’re saying It sounds like you need to back the light off more. Dim it or raise it. 7 day old seedlings are not ready for 100% full strength grow lights.
Lots of light makes plants grow more compact. If you want them to have larger node spacing you gotta reduce the amount of light. It is genetic as well but light plays a big factor.
I look at tight node spacing in veg as a good thing - more bud sites closer together = more flower.
I’m sure you can get your light up to full strength for these plans to enjoy but you’ll probably have to wait till they are more like three weeks old before they can handle it
Welcome to the neighborhood
If u download the photone app, it will help a lot with your lighting and dimming.
we all love pot porn pics
Doesn’t look bad at all for what 7/8 days from sprout? I find the first week or so always seems like it’s not doing much, probably establishing roots mainly, then they go through a hefty growth spurt then slow down again ready for flower
Thank you, everyone. Se7en, I appreciate it, and do feel better now lol. This is my first LED grow and I didn’t expect to see a difference like this. With HPS, the plants grew about 4" before the 2nd set of leaves formed at the same age. I figured I would have some issues and differences between the two lights but not this early.
Yeah also genetics play a huge roll aswell, so one of mine is Forbidden runtz which normally shows sativa genes, most forbidden runtz plants I’ve seen have all been this way, except mine she’s showing indica leaves
No two plants are the same for the most part, I’m not too sure about HPS lights I’ve only used LED myself, so I couldn’t give you a definitive answer on that, I’m sure within the next week you’ll start to see some changes
Looks normal to me
Thank you everyone for your input. In the end in the end I made a mistake with the LED light. After my post I started noticing leaf tips starting to curl under and that 3D look to the leaves, I have seen that before and figured it had to be a light issue. I was surprised to find out that 60% power on my LED at 28" was to much. This height, 24" -30" recommended by the manufacturer is confusing because they don’t explain at what percentage?
After raising the light the plants leaves are now flat and no 3D look to them. The plants have had a lot of growth since then but very little height even after raising the light. With these being auto flowers what can I expect from here? Do they recover in time or will this be a much smaller plant? I usually begin low stress training at the end of week 3, but I can’t with a plant this short lol.
They’ll surprise you during the flowering stretch and grow 2 times this in height. You can still spread the sides out to get better air circulation and expose any hidden or underlying bud sites
