It’s important for us to have the most accurate meters in our hobby. There’s several solutions out there to calibrate with. Calibrating the meter to the most commonly used EC will make the calibration the most accurate.
In our scenario we utilize runoff of 1000 PPM or 2000 EC typically feed at 800ppm or 1600 EC so selecting the highest number of calibrations solution being 1413 for us is wise.
Calibrating the EC to 1413 it tells the meter to also automatically calibrate the PPM to 998 (typical for most 3 in 1 / 5 in 1 / and 7 in 1 pens the market.
It can get very confusing. It’s difficult to get manufacturers or suppliers to answer any general questions directly regarding this topic. I don’t take no for an answer I keep digging until it’s figured out. Someone’s got to do it
@Lostgirl was expecting she’d be wilted and pathetic looking today after all thkse flushes.
She ain’t happy but she’s still standing
I know this is WAY too soon to start thinking of things like this, but anyone have an idea how many autos i could fit comfortably in a 3x3?
I really dont expect much from this grow - theres been so many issues and im still not sure what im doing, id rather be pleasantly surprised than sorely disappointed. Cant help but look to the future, though.
All that watering got the humidity thru the roof though
First off, don’t sell yourself short on this being a below average grow. You hit some obstacles and that’s for sure. But it’s honestly nothing that has stressed your girl.
I’ll assist you and get you on the right path. When I’m done with you you’ll understand what you’re doing. We’re simply getting you out of a slump right now. (Takes a little time)
As I said yesterday she’ll be pissed at all the water we gave her. But she’ll get over it.
How many plants in a 3X3
That question depends on a lot of different factors. Autoflower or photo we’ll play big part. How big they get will play a big part.
I have a 4x4 I’ve grown 9 plants (it’s very cramped) right now I’m finishing a 7 plant grow (very cramped)
I’ve done 6 plants in a 4x4 and it seemed to be the magic number for comfortability.
I would say if you can then average size, 3 plants would grow in a three by three but two plants you could grow extremely comfortable.
Environment
I would kick the light back to 75%. If you don’t have a 75% 80% is fine. Make sure you check your manufacturer recommendation for height in your manual for vegetation stage.
In vegetation stage for me a perfect world would be 75° and 50% humidity
I’m a huge fan of fans air movement throughout your tent is so important and I’m overboard when it comes to fans.
I have a fan on each Pole in the tent, I have two fans blowing in the vents at the bottom of the tent on the floor and I have a big fan blowing inside the door of the tent. (My girls are dancing at all times)
I “assumed” the pens came calibrated.
Probably wrong, as usual.
The solutions and instructions will assist for course correction.
Your guidance, explanations, and assistance is appreciated.
Personally I’ve never had the pens come in calibrated incorrectly. Normally I calibrate them when I get them and find that they were dead on the money. Nevertheless not all manufacturers take their time.
Theres ALOT lf airflow in that tent, 2 circular fans on each side (bottom left, top right) that are always running during the day, my light came with a built in fan as well, then theres the intake and exhaust which are running constantly.
Its quite breezy in there.
Going to go ahead and turn the light to 75, i think its maybe 16-17in above the plant.
I feel like we went overboard on the tent and accessories, light, etc, but this has to be a successful endeavor. I just dont trust buying from anyone these days.
Theres been a plague of Fentanyl laced smoke in my area the last couple years; some people have actually died from it, im not taking that chance.
Your plant definitely could use a lollipopping it’s when you remove the bottom third of your plant. All the branches in the leaves get removed as they’re never going to a melt to anything and it gives you better air flow in room to water. We’ll go over that in the next few days once we give her a chance to dry.
This is the point where you should have already had started low stress training LST on your plant. However she’s so big and bushy you might not need to. Again that’s something we can talk about in the very near future.
In the meantime, when you get a chance pop on YouTube in search lollipopping autoflowers and also search LST stress training autoflowers.
This way you’ll have a head start on at least understanding why you’re doing it and how to do it. (My suggestion)
The plant is 33 days today and roughly 20in and yes very, very bushy. (Checked out a few videos on lollipopping and have a general idea of how it works) she certainly has some leaves that arent getting FULL light and im sure not so great airflow.
I went directly into the soil with my seed (i read online that auto doesnt need to be transplanted, is that true?) I was nervous to do any transplanting my first grow, so she went from seed floating in water with a tail, directly into her grow bag.
I definitely see (what i believe to be) pre-flower. It started last week but has really taken off in the last 3-4 days. Pics for reference, please correct me if im wrong.
The slurry is ready but im going with your advice to wait 24 hrs, so thatll be this evening some time.
You can test the slurry’s pH now it’s been plenty of time. If possible keep that water. If you were calibration packs come in tomorrow we can test that PPM
Did the manufacturer paperwork come with a recommendation on how high to set your light in the different stages of growth?
Do you feel confident in doing it?
Not true. There’s huge benefits in transplanting. I start the seed in Solo cups. 12 days later I transplant into it’s final home (3 gallon pot) this gives you a better opportunity to get into microbial powders that make the root system thrive. Better roots better grow.
I totally understand the being nervous of doing anything on your first grow. I’m still nervous.
You’re definitely in pre-flower. Will consider you week 4 of the vegetative stage
If you got my last post I’d asked you to hold on to that water from the test until tomorrow to see if you get your calibration 1413 solution
Your lighting
I can’t stress enough how important it is to understand your light and how it works in relation to your plant. Your manufacturer has some good information.
Unfortunately I’ll be the first person to admit I am not a light person. I bought the most expensive light that I could find $700 the manufacturer recommends me to adjust the light in the different stages and that’s all I’ve ever done. (This is not the correct way)
There are apps, to assist but there is definitely some serious learning for you to do and investigate. Understanding your ppfd and all that other good stuff it’s a must.
Hopefully someone can chime in and assist you. I apologize I just got spoiled with my light and the directions that came with it so I never investigated the things that I should have. (Shame on that)
There’s a lot to learn and a lot to do and it all starts now
Your goal is to have a successful grow and I can appreciate that. You seem willing to put in the time and the work that it takes and I appreciate that even more.
Ok guys and gals. Sorry to get back so late on this investigation into the EC and PPM calibration discussion we had weeks back… this is specifically for the people who have purchased the 5 in 1 tds meter per my recommendation.
Our questions were…
Q: are we a single point or multiple point calibration. We are a single point calibration. This means we only need to calibrate with one solution.
Q: what calibration solution do we need to purchase?
1413 μS/cm
Q: do we need to calibrate both EC and PPM separately purchasing separate calibration solution?
No, calibration of the EC with 1413 μS/cm vocalibrate automatically the EC - PPM - SALT functions all at one time.
Q: how do we calibrate it once we have the solution?
Below are the instructions and also a video.
Note:
Calibrating the EC and the ph is very important to the accuracy of our readings when we’re communicating with our plants. Were only as accurate and caring for our plants as our meter is!
The paperwork didnt tell me jack s**t aside from how to hang it and turn it on, any information ive gotten on height/intensity has been thru the articles on their site and what ive read on the forums.
I only feel half confident in lollipopping. i have a general idea of how its done but i think im going to have to watch a few more vids before attempting it, i know it needs to be done soon, probably once she dries out? She definitely needs to be cleaned up - shes VERY bushy.
Holding onto that slurry solution until my pens and everything come in
Im not sure shes 4 weeks into veg. Dont want to question you, but shes only 33 days old so. Maybe 2 weeks in? The pistols have only formed within the last 2 weeks, maybe less. Its happening FAST, every time i look at her she seems taller and fuller. Very smelly
We’ll see if someone chimes in for the assistants in your light. Knowing the percentages of intensity and the height of your light setting in each individual stage of growth is crucial. @Bentstick might have some input on your vivosun aerolight wing aw200se
I suggest watching them. Autoflowers are on a time clock. The clock moves forward with us or without us. We have to stay ahead of things. There are certain times that you do certain things that could potentially stress your plant.
10/4
Despite what charts say like “4 weeks of veg” or “2 weeks of seedling” these are standards they’re not set in stone.
The 10 days in the Solo cup I consider the seedling stage
As soon as I transplant her I consider that day one of vegetation.
When I see pistols forming at the bud sites like you are I consider that pre-flower.
A week later I consider it the flowering stage. You can call it whatever you like.
When you see this the following week we call it week 1 of the flower
When you lollipop, your not removing the main stems and branches You’re simply removing the popcorn bud sites, vegetation, and the leaves you’re leaving the branches on (don’t cut off the side branches)
You’re basically taking the bottom third of your plan and stripping off the vegetation not the branches
You’re basically just stripping everything off the branches from the red line down. I know it’s scary but it’s not difficult and it’s not going to hurt your girl right now.
No help with that light, only have run Spider Farmers But if its 200 watt should not have issues with 2plants , no help with Autos either but with my photos I keep it around 800-850 par this what I found on that light.
