I just learned the hard way the big fuzzy wooly worms love canibis an eat a freakin lot in one day an nite !just leaves tho
Its just their nature.
My dad used to spread wood ashes around his tomatoes to stop caterpillars. Doesn’t help if eggs are laid on the plant. Capt. Jacks Dead Bug is what you want.
I know dawn dish soap and water will stop inch worms if the infestation isn’t too bad. Might help with fuzzy ones too.
That’s why I gave it up outdoors…
I took her back inside i just put her in dark closet from 6 to 6 ! I use the 7 spray on my tomatoes i sprayed that on it an next morning i found a smaller on than the one i caught in act lmao
An kills wasp i keep a bottle in my camper i grow in sor summer wasp they like my canibis to lol
For outside grows what I found was most effective was a rotational spray.
Day 1- Captain Jacks Dead Bug
Day 2- Safer Caterpillar Killer
Day 3 - No spray
Repeat
If it rains, start at day one again. Always spray with the nozzle pointing up to get the undersides of the leaves, then a quick mist all over from above. I also wet the sides of the containers with the Capt’n Jacks.
Edit: Any spray REQUIRES a peroxide wash when harvesting. Should do it anyway just for bird poop or anything else. You’ll be amazed at what comes off.
Sevin: countries where Sevin is banned, include Angola, Australia, Denmark, Germany, Iran, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
I simply planted extra to get the volume I wanted and if I actually ended up with extra, made concentrates.
And BT 1 works well!
BT 1 or BTI?
I know BTI is good for killing larvae of fungus gnats, black flies and skeeters, but doesn’t really do anything for caterpillars or worms.
I don’t know anything about BT 1.
My bad @1LuckyMF it is Montery BT my arsenal for bugs outdoors.
Ahhh, yep, that’s the same active ingredient of safer caterpillar killer.
Did a quick check on price and safer was a couple bucks cheaper, and low and behold, Bonide (capt’n jacks) is even cheaper when bought in 32 oz concentrate. Probably varies enough to check them all at the time of purchase.
Yeah the “1” through me…
I brung her back inside to harsh out side
I used 7 spray im not putting plants outside no more last year it was mold this year bugs im keeping them under lock an key from now on lol
Im sorry but i dont live in them places ,.i use stuff that kills ,i dont allow birds rabbits squirrels ,or bugs to eat anything i grow ! Lmao ypu should see me in my garden im even more protective !i am sorry if i offend i just dont fall into the organic trap ,better living thru modern chemistry!
I feel im getting ppl mad at me over how i deal with bugs an vermin ,very sorry i thank you for help ill look into capt jacks .i was just amazed at how much them lil critters eat a day they were my favorite bug they grow into a cool moth
Not offended at all here, its war on vermin here also muskrats in pond to.fish eating birds, to them damn lil red Tree rats that like our eaves then in the roof, no no no shame on them!
Yes squirrels are evil i hate them i got holes in my facia boards on my eves an my wife wont let me shoot them they destroyed my garden last year my tomatoes are over abundant an its driving me crazy keeping rodents out ! Im fixing to introduce them to mr Gamo pellet rifle an squirl brain dumplins
I fikken loathe caterpillars! When I first started growing I lost more than 50% due to those nasty creatures.
It took me several years and a huge loss of privacy, but I finally moved indoors. The initial cost is painful, and it’s been hard for me to not apply things from outdoors to indoors, but unless I move into a very well sealed green house, I won’t be going back outdoors.
I’m not so much into organics, as just trying to be safe about what I consume. We grow or raise 90% or more of everything we consume. We free range our chickens so I even have poultry netting over our raised beds so they don’t dirt bath in the containers.
My family is a bunch of farmers and I’ve watched the health issues they’ve had and what they’ve died from. I’ve also seen other family members choose to do things different and live longer and have a better quality of life in the process. I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I’m just smart enough to see the results. Crazy part is the family members who make fun of the ones choosing a different path, while they suffer from the same stuff their parents died from.
Dude, I’m not mad at all, you do you. Nothing but best wishes here I promise. I have a friend that’s “vegan”, I don’t agree with his philosophies at all, he’s probably my best friend.
As far as Sevin, I use to use it all the time, more research I did, for the wife and kids and I we choose to not use it anymore. What I use now cost a bit more, not too bad really, and works better than expected and doesn’t kill bees.
As far as rabbits and other critters. Some go in the freezer, some go to the chickens or pigs when I had them. I better not talk about cats and dogs. (free range chickens)
Anywho, perhaps this isn’t the response you expected, and it’s cool.
By the way, if you haven’t already, do a search for " bud wash" it’s interesting to say the least.
I just looked up a musk rat looks like a nutria rat !them look like they can do lots damage
I have a Ruger 22-45 lite that makes good work of them and keeps the Eagles happy that are nesting close, free food, do the same with deer left overs, and fish guts.
