The older I get, the more health conscious I’ve become. I am very new to growing but have had great success with growing organic. I personally know many people struggling with cancer and health problems due to the crazy amount of GMO’s, chemicals and pesticides in our food and everyday lives. So I’ve put a big emphasis on trying to avoid all these harsh chemicals and started growing organically a few years back. And to be honest, I haven’t felt this good in a long time. I am the type of person who wants to see everyone happy and healthy. The organic strawberries I grow are twice as juicy and delicious than most store bought fruit. And the handful of marijuana plants I’ve grown organically are the best bud I’ve ever smoked. It’s so smooth with no coughing, full of terpenes loaded with flavor and loaded with crystals. And I get to reuse my soil with some amendments. I’ve tried many dispensaries and have been disappointed almost every time. Growing organic not only gets you a better, healthier product. It also costs so much less. It’s a no brainer in my opinion. I had to start this topic because I believe it’s important. I have to get to work. I’ll check back later.
For some organics can pose issues. I personally dont, because i grow indoors and pests are more common in organics. Also, synthetic nutes can be delivered quicker than organics can provide. I’m not knockin it, just not my forte.
What I’ve noticed…
Convenience Kills
Fast food etc etc
Many things that we use we use because it’s easier without actually taking a moment to think about the ramifications.
No one reads labels.
If you did you’d realize they are killing us softly little by little poisoning us and no one goes to jail for it.
Exactly why I’ll be switching to Organics moving forward.
Well said my friend.
Except for some that are just trying to grow their own medicine
I grow organically because of convenience and its all natural. Sure its a little slower, but its a hell of alot more forgiving if a mistake is made. I use dry amendments and teas and have gotten my method down packed for me. I dont bash any other way of growing, i just dont have the time to mess with em as much as i would need to such as meauring and mixing.
Define Organic growing… what type of soil and plant food, light. I am always learning so interested in the process
Because of ease, mainly my soils are organic and alive but aren’t organic 100% so can’t be classed as even though they pretty much are.
Chems or organics the results are similar and no harmful chems are made in the plant using one over the other as converting a nutrient from the root to leaf is a thirty plus organic chemistry step that leaves each in complete different form.
More worries would be lead and heavy metal absorbtion, food safe ferts and soils plus some reading up can be better than organic or not.
There’s a lot of harmful organic compounds and additives, organic dosent mean anti cancer or health just look at what some want banned over the years in organic farming.
The world cannot sustain or grow enough organically, intensive methods are still needed to supply demand.
On the plus side the variety of copper elements and manganese for example in organic is far greater activating more of the plants systems which can help with growth stress water use etc.
Side by side it’s rare to find a species that you can tell organic or not on consumption if both were grown to their best. A lot of organic crops aren’t the same as the non organic, not really anything but you might find your organic produce from different cultivars to your non organic which is simply farmer choice but something I notice a lot. Also the more you pay for fruit and veg the more you find the tasty and better cultivars since they weren’t grown for the most weight and least costs.
Is organic better, slightly but I’ve found non organic just as good when grown by a real experienced farmer.
Rocks aren’t organic but outdoors there’s lots of rocks in the soil leaching inorganic nutrients, technically being truly organic and not inorganic or synthetic is very hard so there’s some crossover on that certain scale we just accept when we class something organic.
Just do what you like the best, I just tell people it’s organic they can’t ever work out it’s not. As to saving the planet grow organic and that what not, newsflash it’s not working the earth’s only getting worse.
Well I was going to rant. I was going to say bad stuff about synthetics but I decided I’m just going to say that it is simply because everyone thinks their way is the way. Right now someone somewhere is probably thinking “why isn’t everyone growing synthetically”
It’s usually one or more of
-Ignorance/not knowing any better
-They were taught by someone that didn’t know any better
-More concerned about money than their health or that of the world
Change is hard for people. The things that we don’t know that we don’t know are the most dangerous.
What is the difference between organic nitrogen and synthetic?
The plant still makes exactly the same compounds from both.
Synthetic gets a bad rap from those who don’t understand but I can see why when it’s advertised as it is.
Synthetic fertilizer application begins the destruction of soil biodiversity by suppressing the role of nitrogen-fixing bacteria and enhancing the role of everything that feeds on nitrogen.
I’m lazy and I prefer the easiest route possible to get my stash stocked.
It dosent favour it but there’s plenty that will live in a semi organic soil with synthetic ferts and a quick Google shows how hardy most species are to salt content.
But that’s the point of synthetic it feeds direct the same stuff the organic route does only that feeds the soil more.
Any use a combination of the both, the organic feeds the soil the synthetic the roots and nothing dies out because all are fed.
I’ve checked the Brix levels of produce grown organically as in fertile soil vs ones in chemical baths and there is a difference in the nutritional content of a store bought IV injected strawberry compared to ones I’ve grown.
This difference plays out across the board.
Used a refractometer to test.
Anyone who has grown tomatoes or strawberries for example and also bought from the store know which has a high Brix level and taste the way they should.
Nature figured this stuff out a long time ago.
The person who invented/discovered man made fertilizers back in the early 1900’s saw where things were going and ended up pushing back on their use.
I wonder how much combined run off people have and all that wasted chemical nutrients being washed down the drain and into our waterways and environment just in the homegrown cannabis world?
I choose another more sustainable and less expensive way.
Below from the article posted above
This has come at a price, however. There is the sheer strain placed on the natural environment by the number of human beings now sustained by artificial fertilisers. In addition, there are problems caused by our ever increasing appetite for ammonium chemicals. Our bodies may accumulate nitrogen atoms from fertiliser plants, but far more of these atoms fail to make it into the food chain and are instead released into the environment. The result, in many areas, has been calamitous. Nitrogen fertilisers get washed into streams, rivers, lakes and coastal areas where they feed algae that spread in thick carpets over the waters, suffocating life below.
…and unneccessary.
Word. Hopefully enough people become concerned appropriately, before it is too late to change anything.
What if its something you cant taste.
I think its cuz we do what fits our life and goals but like other stuff we can nitpick and take words apart organic and natural etc right about that Harris Ive said ecoli is organic uranium is natural.
But not concentrated in our food and smoke it isnt. Still good point cuz low pH more uptake toxic metals, way more data on Zn toxicity than Zn deficiency, we knew bout food for decades, soil I can grow pH7 maybe higher. I differentiate soil from potting mix and soil mix. Soil isnt potting mix whats it say on the bag, itll run out of poop in a month and needs nutes. thats another word to take apart i think if its soil it needs no extra words like organic living natural etc then there’s cannabis friendly “soil mix” bring your tester and your wallet.
I didnt plan a side-rant but I edit cuz tryin to condense
Then i set it on fire and inhale the smoke of partially burned oils, particulate matter, oxides of nitrogen and carbon monoxide but less Al Zn Cd and Im never buying nutes again.
We grew enough food to feed 11 billion. Tbe year of the drought and financial crisis. 15yrs ago… Just sayin
