Poseidon's GDP organic vs soiless experiment

Hey guys! Been a while now since I have done a run. I have been itching to compare a soiless vs a organic run. Now to be clear, i will not being doing the comparison simultaneously. Instead this run will be strickly organic BUT will be grown using the same exact clone that ive had around for a while now. This will be a fair and unbiased experiment. The previous grows are also documented on here as well with coco and jacks with daily fertigation. Ive had great results with the jacks and coco, BUT i feel the weed is lacking in terpenes and flavor a bit bc of it being a hydro “beaster” type of grow. I am now going to predict the organic will taste and smell alot better while only suffereing a little bit on weight. Im tired of hearing both sides, so i will put this to bed on here for us all. So here is a clone of the mother ive had on here a while grown in coco and jacks

Now here is my current grow, same clone’s, just transplanted.

This run will be done in 5 gallon fabric pots, in Coast of Maine Stonington blend, perlite, and worm castings at 5 parts com, 1 part perlite, 1 part worm casting. I will be top dressing with Gaia Green dry amendments with occasion of cal-mag and additional microbes. Any and all are welcome to aid or to learn. Looking forward to this one, more for the data then anything else!

One more thing to add. This grow will be with a 4x4 gorilla original tent, two HLG 350r, with ac ininity clip on fans and 6" exhaust. This about somes up my intro. I will be doing updates once a week, most likely on sundays. Strap in!

@OGIncognito Its been over twenty years for me since ive done that style of grow. But i would bet my paycheck on organic for flavor. Cannot wait to prove this once and for all. Dont get me wrong, the coco and jacks is a excellent way to grow, simple really. But im still in this for flavor over weight. Plus i love the thought of no runoff after alot of coco grows.

I agree with what you outlined in your original post about flaver and hydro vs soil. I have done this experiment with BB Muffin. My buddy next door grows hydro and I do soil. I know from personal exp, that hydro does get quite a bit more yield and better growth during the veg stage. I gave a tester of my BB to him and once he smoked it, he wanted me to give him a clone or get a bean going so I did. Once his was done, he said it barely smells and not much taste compared to mine in soil. So whether it is truly organic or synthetic nutes, the soil gives it more of a smell/flavor profile. Good luck and have fun with your experiment.

Thanks grow bro, ive done soil and synthetics enough to know as well. Only thing i have not done in years is the soil and organic nutes. I do believe soil and synthetics is still inferior imo.

Ok guys, update number one. So it has only been six days since the intro/transplant. Here on out will be one week intervals. Been really slow bc the clones did not have alot of roots and they went straight into 5 gallon fabric. But they are growing and getting there vibrant colors back. The damaged leafs are from the cloning process and a bit too much light for rooting clones. One got topped already bc it is growing faster then other three, probably because of better roots initially. Not much to see yet. Ppfd is from 405 to 430

Update #2 ok guys, the girls are now two weeks from transplant. This week they all got topped, and some minor defoliating. They finally are putting down roots and picking up speed and bushing out. So next update or the three week mark i will be top dressing each pot at 1tbsp per gallon with the gaia green 4-4-4. According to coast of maine, a 5 gallon pot of there soil will feed for 4 weeks. But i also added about 15% perlite. Being said, im feeling at three weeks is the proper time to top dress. I will also be top dressing 1 cup of worm castings per 5 gallon pot. Today i gave them some fulvic acid at a minor dose of .5 gram per gallon, which is organic i may add. Here they are.

Update#3. Ok guys, im back, happy labor day weekend! So today is three weeks since transplant. They really took off this last week and decided to top feed them tuesday, which was 16 days from transplant. By next update the first net will be installed. I will need it bc i gotta wait 2 1/2 weeks to flip now bc of the amendments. Its going to be thick but was not ready to flip b4 the top feed. They got a dose of molasses yesterday, which will only be roughly bi-weekly. They were in the 500 plus range for ppfd, but they started showing the light stress, now im in the 450ppfd range. Let me know what you think. Any questions, ask away.

Ok guy, update #4. The girls are now 4 weeks from solo cup transplant. The girls are still doing well. They got a good size defoliation again and the 1st net is installed. I will be flipping next weekend. My 350r’s are at 450 ppfd at 29 inch’s. Ive noticed that i cannot go every other day for watering, since not watering to runoff. They were looking droopy and sad at every other day. This kind of grow is meant to stay moist anyway and are responding better to daily watering. They are all drinking a half gallon daily when watered very slow. Any sort of speed watering will create runoff before optimal soaking. What you guys think so far?.

Update#5. The girls are now 5 weeks from solo cup transplant. So i had to flip on Wednesday bc they reached my maximum veg height to work with. So thursday would be day 1, and today would be day 4 from flip. It has been challenging to dial in the feed for the gaia green nutrients. They started showing hunger and slight yellowing fast and out of nowhere and it was only two weeks from top dressing. So i top dressed again on Wednesday, and bumped it up 1 tablespoon. In other words, 1 tablespoon per gallon and at a 5 gallon pot, got 6 tablespoons. Honestly to go the whole month the way it is advertised just cannot be done in my environment. Not sure if i will bump up the top dress next time or just do three top dresses at two week intervals for flower at the 6 tablespoons per 5 gallon. Trending lightly, thought a 20% increase was as high as wanting to go being first time with these amendments. Ppfd is at 700 to 780 depending in the tent. Here they are.
