When to water 10 gallon fabric pots?

So i grow in 10 gallon fabric pots using promix hp or some other Inert media. I have great success with this but ive been watering them 2 times a day with runoff and I’m burning through the expensive nutes. So i cut back to 1 time a day with run off with no negative effects. Now I’m wondering if i could go every other day without any negative effects. I grow them bigger than most. 1 plant per 5x5. My question is, how can you test moisture level deep in the pot? They are heavily scroged so lifting them isn’t easy. Moisture meter? What brand? If you use 10 gallon pots, how often do you water? What is the size of your plants in this 10 gallon pots? Thanks

I grow in 7 gallon bags with a similar peat based product - Most growers allow their media to dry in between waterings…a wet dry cycle. I lift the pots slightly (too heavy to completely lift) and if they seem light I water. Ends up being every other day or so once the roots have filled the pot.

You mentioned that it is hard to lift the 10 gallon bags…I can imagine. @Spiney_norman posted this on another thread recently.

So i removed all auto irrigation lines and have been hand watering / feeding in the 10 gallon pots since making this post. Im saving a ton in nutes and water! Plants seem happy. Some plants need water/ feed every other day and others once every 3 days. I’m concerned i might be waiting too long for a full dry back b4 i water. Should i water before the pot is really light (promix hp)? I haven’t seen any wilting when i think it’s time to water so im guessing I’m doing it at the right time? Are these dry backs causing me to lose bud weight?

I do not like for them to be completely dry, but want them to be significantly lighter than when I fed them. As soon as the top layer looks dry it is usually time.

In 10 gallons it really depends on how big your plants are. Every two or three days sounds right for a large plant. Post a couple pictures.

Plants are about 5 feet from the floor (including the pots and drainage trays)

Looking good . I’ll be doing my day 21 defoliation on Saturday. The bottom picture is what mine look like when I water. I would believe you are cycling every other day. I add extra pearlite to mine because I want to feed them every other day and even every day late in flower

To get an idea u should be able to grab the pot with a pinch of 2 fingers andtry to move a bit. U’ll know by the pinch and lift if the pot has good weight or if she is requiring water. Don’t have to be easily lift the pot but if u can grab it with the pinch of 2 fingers and slightly lift it like it feels light she is due for a drink.
